Nokia 701 Photos : Hands On

Nokia announced the 701 along with the 600 and 700 at the event in Hong Kong. We got our hands on the Nokia 701 and it is certainly a well designed phone taking cues from the C7. Just when everyone was thinking , Symbian has reached it’s end Nokia surprised us by launching 3 new Symbian phones running the newest version of Symbian – Belle and packing other interesting goodies such as a 1GHz Processor and NFC ( Near Field Communication ). We got our hands on the most affordable phone of the trio – the Nokia 600 which is also supposed to be the loudest smartphone from Nokia so far. Take a look at the pics below. Nokia Symbian Anna Update rolling out to N8, E7, C7 and C6-01

Nokia has announced that the much awaited Symbian Anna update is finally available for Symbian phones such as the N8, C7 , E7 and C6-01.  The update brings a new UI along with some improvements in messaging , maps and the browser. The update is available through Ovi Suite and as an Over The Air update.The Over the Air normally takes a bit longer to appear so you can try using Ovi Suite to check if your phone has received the update. The release also says that more than 10 Symbian phones will be launched in the next 12 months. The update is slowly rolling out to all countries . Have you updated your Nokia to Anna ? Let us know ! Nokia and Polar Mobile to launch over 300 mobile apps for Symbian , Meego and Windows Phone

Looks like Nokia is still supporting Meego and Symbian as it plans to launch over 300 apps for Symbian , Meego and Windows Phone devices over the next 12 months. The handset maker has entered into an agreement with mobile app developer Polar Mobile to launch apps for top media brands. The first 50 apps will be available on Nokia Ovi Store for Symbian phones.All these apps are expected to use the Qt framework which enables developers to reuse code across various mobile platforms. Motorola Defy Plus is Official – runs Gingerbread and can survive some abuse !

The rumoured Motorola Defy+ which is the successor to the original Defy is finally official close on the heels of the Google to acquire Motorola Mobility announcement . The Defy Plus retains the glory of it’s ancestor and is Water Resistant, Scratch Resistant and Dust Proof. We are not totally sure what extent of abuse this phone can handle. Our very own Jon had the pleasure of dipping the the old Defy in a glass of water and it did function properly afterwards. In terms of specs it is powered by a 1GHz CPU and runs on Android 2.3 and runs on a 1700 mAh battery. The 3.7 inch display is made of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass.You can find the full specs below. As you can see there are minor improvements in terms of specs but we wish Motorola promoted this phone in a better way at least in countries where it rains a lot !

TabCo Grid 10 Tablet aka JooJoo 2 outed

Some mysterious tweets and videos have been making the rounds on the internet for over a month now from a handle called  WeAreTabCo. Recently the Grid 10 Tablet showed up at the FCC in the US. The Grid 10 is a successor to the JooJoo tablet from Fusion Garage which was initially known as the CrunchPad. A legal battle between TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington and Fusion Garage founder Chandrasekar Rathakrishnan was underway and the Crunchpad was renamed as the JooJoo and got mostly negative reviews from users and reviewers. Looks like the company is still not out of the tablet game and is trying to get rid of the JooJoo name . We company let the cat out of the bag through a tweet minutes ago.

Google to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion

Google has just announced that it is acquiring one of the biggest names in the mobile phone industry and one of pioneers in the telecommunications space – Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. Google will continue to operate Motorola Mobility as a separate entity. The deal is still pending regulatory approval considering the sheer size of the transaction and is expected to be completed in 2011 end or early 2012.

The European Imaging and Sound Association has announced the winners of the EISA awards for 2011-12. The HTC ChaCha , Samsung Galaxy S2 and Sony Ericsson Arc emerged as winners in 3 separate categories.Samsung Galaxy S2 bagged the award for the Best European Mobile Phone , not too surprising considering the millions of units the company has managed to sell since it’s launch. SIM-Free Nokia N9 to land in UK through Unofficial Channels

When the Nokia N9 was announced during CommunicAsia we stumbled upon a list of countries which would get the device,  many countries including UK, USA and India were missing from that list. Now Nokia has confirmed to some publications that the device wont be coming to UK or US. Micromax takes on iPhone with Affordable Android

Micromax A70 is a entry level Android Phone from handset maker Micromax who is well known primarily for its Dual SIM devices. The company had a big advert today in a leading newspaper Times of India pictured above which pokes fun at the iPhone and at the same time conveys the message to the prospective buyer. No one can deny the fact that the iPhone has become the benchmark for any Touchscreen phone. But the iPhone still  remains expensive with the cheapest offering available only at Rs.19,990 and Micromax seems to be cashing in on that.
