Ubuntu Edge revealed, with an ambitious crowd funded 2014 launch

Ubuntu Edge

Canonical, the company behind the highly popular Linux Distro has revealed its plans for a cutting edge high end smartphone running the Ubuntu OS for smartphones. The OS, formally launched at the Mobile World Congress(which we went hands on with) was in the alpha stage and a demo had been made available for some Android devices too, but it was never ready to be a daily driver. While that is supposed to change soon, Canonical wants to make a really high end device that would hopefully end the hunt for convergence, a single device that does it all. And that, my friends, is the Ubuntu Edge. Here’s a video of the Canonical boss explaining the whole idea behind the Ubuntu Edge –

nokia-lumia-625-orange-leak-tease

Nokia has just teased in their official Conversations blog that “something BIG” is coming tomorrow. The blog usually teases phones ahead of launch with clear cut titles, like “Zoom in” for the Lumia 1020, “Steel yourself for the next instalment” for the Lumia 925, and similarly, we think that “Something BIG” is meant for the first 4.7 inch Nokia – the Lumia 625. In a very quick tease they have said that they are launching the Lumia 625 tomorrow at 9 A.M UK time, which is 02:30 P.M IST tomorrow for us. Will there be details we actually don’t know about, yet? We’ll see, but there was a specific leak earlier that leads us to believe that it is indeed the Lumia 625.

Locket lets you make money through ads on your Android lockscreen

locket-make-money-android-1

“Why didn’t any one think of this before?” was the first thought that came to my mind when I read about Locket, a new innovative advertising platform that resides on your.. wait for it.. lockscreen! Yes, Locket is a simple app that displays ads on your lockscreen, and if you thought that was too intrusive, they make it up to you by letting you share their profits. With phones getting larger and larger, the screen real estate has indeed become prime property of advertisers looking at innovative ways to reach the end user. The lockscreen especially is almost always largely unused and a thing that’s always looked at, when you open the screen, and this is the exact space which Locket takes advantage of. Here is a quick promo to show how it works –

HTC One Mini goes official with a 4.3 inch 720p display and Snapdragon 400 in tow

htc-one-mini-aluminium-1

The long rumoured and heavily leaked HTC One Mini has finally gone official. Filling the space left by the HTC One S, the One mini will be sporting a smaller display and more modest specs, when compared to its bigger brother and flagship, the HTC One. While the design and the looks are almost exactly the same as the One, the internals are different with predictable cost cutting done in the favour of a lower price. So, in any case, this isn’t a smaller flagship like most people expect it to be. While the camera is the same 4MP UltraPixel camera as the One, it loses the OIS functionality, and if you are keen enough to notice the lack of a vertical band above the camera, which is now occupied by the flash, there is no NFC on this either.

Ever since the HP slate that launched at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, HP had started its Android on-slaught with more devices. Sometime back, HP launched the Slatebook X2, a convertible Android tablet with a keyboard dock that made it work like a laptop too, if needed. This is the standard on most Windows 8 tablets and the trend was started way back, by the ASUS transformer, which has been caught up by other companies such as HP.

The SlateBook X2 has a 10.1-inch (1920 by 1200 pixels) IPS display, powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). samsung-galaxy-tab-3-india-launch

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and 8.0 inch devices were launched separately, with one device announced in April and the other on the 3rd of June, with not that much of a fanfare. In less than two months, it has been teased as “coming to India” on Samsung’s Facebook page and is also being displayed as “coming soon” in the Samsung India eStore for the both the models. The Galaxy Tab 3 devices are an evolution of the Galaxy Tab 2 tablet and are all equipped with voice calling capabilities, much like the original Galaxy Tab. Boasting 7 and 8 inch screens respectively, they are much of the earlier Samsung device like the Tab 2 310 and the Note 8.0. It is also likely that Samsung will be launching both the devices tomorrow, as we have just received an invite for a press conference tomorrow.
