OmniVision Technologies has introduced OV23850 and OV21840, new 23.8-megapixel and 21.4-megapixel camera sensors in the PureCel-S series aimed at high-end smartphones. These are based on OmniVision’s advanced stacked die process, which separates the imaging array from the image sensor processing pipeline into a stacked die structure providing additional sensor functionalities, such as phase detection autofocus (PDAF), two-dimensional contrast fast autofocus and HDR video, while maintaining a small footprint, says the company. T-Mobile will offer Wi-Fi calling on the newly launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the US while EE will provide the same in the UK. The popular US and UK carriers will be the first one to partner Apple for this feature that will allow users to make phone calls using a Wi-Fi network.

Aircel has launched its 4G services in Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir. It becomes the first company to provide 2G, 3G and 4G services in these two circles. Last month Aircel launched its 4G LTE services in four circles – Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Odisha. Other than these circles, Aircel holds 20MHz of spectrum in the 4G LTE 2300 MHz band in West Bengal and North East. Airtel has launched 4G services in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The company already offers 4G services in Pune, Maharashtra since 2012. It launched 4G services in Patiala, Punjab last week. Nagpur is the 14th city in the country to get Airtel 4G, said the company. Customers in Nagpur too can access 4G on dongles and Wi-Fi CPEs (Customer Premise Equipment/ routers). 4G on mobile is not available in the city yet. Last week there were reports about Kyocera developing a smartphone with sapphire crystal display. Today, the company has released a video and thereby confirming the launch of a smartphone that is equipped with sapphire crystal display.
Kyocera which focuses on durable and rugged smartphones showcases ‘Sapphire Shield’ displays in the latest video. It claims that it has 41 years of experience synthesizing man-made sapphire for electronic components, LED lighting, and high-end wrist watches. The Sapphire Shield display is described as “coming soon,” and will be available in large enough quantities to satisfy Android manufacturers. It also states that this displays will be pure and “truly affordable”.

Aircel today launched its 4G services in India finally. It is available across four circles – Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Odisha. Aircel becomes the second operator in India to offer 4G services after Airtel that already has 4G service in several cities. Reliance Jio recently announced that it would offer 4G services in 2015. News reports about Samsung working on virtual reality headsets surfaced online in May this year. Now, SamMobile has revealed that the Korean electronic giant is calling it as the Gear VR and it will debut at the IFA 2014. The report has posted an image of the Gear VR that will reportedly debuted alongside the Galaxy Note 4 at the event. As reported earlier Facebook’s Oculus Rift will collaborate with Samsung for the software of the device.
