Expect Google to get into anything that has to do with the Internet! And if the Internet gets onto the Mobile, Google would follow suit and develop applications for your cell phone.

Google has announced that it is expanding its services to the BlackBerry platform. Available immediately, Google Local for mobile can be downloaded for free, and will provide BlackBerry users with maps and satellite imagery as well as the ability to receive driving directions and locate addresses.

Due this spring, Google Talk will also be provided for free, and will enable BlackBerry users to chat and keep up with their contacts via the Google Talk instant messaging system. Google Talk requires a free Gmail e-mail account.

Of course both applications require that you have a data service subscription on your BlackBerry device, for which most providers charge.

New Motorola Handsets Will Feature Google Button

Motorola and Google enter into partnership

Analysts are maintaining very positive predictions about Motorola?s stock price, following that company?s announcement on Thursday of a partnership with Google.

The major partnership, which was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, will make it easier for users of Motorola handsets to access Google?s mobile internet services, including search. Future Motorola handsets will include a special Google button, enabling one-click access to the Google search home page.

?We view this to be a significant announcement as it helps boost mobile Internet use,? said RBC Capital Markets analyst, Mark Sue. ?To date, ease-of-access/use has been one of the barriers to broader adoption.?

The new Google-friendly handsets will be made available by the end of the first quarter, and will likely promote wider Motorola handset adoption, while boosting Google?s ad revenue.

Opera 8.50 Now Available for Series 60

Opera Software announced yesterday version 8.50 of the Opera Mobile browser, compatible with all Symbian Series 60 smartphones

Opera Software announced yesterday version 8.50 of the Opera Mobile browser, compatible with all Symbian Series 60 smartphones.

The new version of the browser offers faster navigation, customizable keypad shortcuts, enhanced image handling and more extensive language support. One other important feature included in this update of the mobile browser is a password manager that makes it easier to log into different accounts that require a username and password
combination.

Opera Mobile 8.50 is available in a number of new languages, such as Hong Kong Chinese, Indonesian, Russian and Swedish.

Series 60 owners will benefit from Opera’s Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology, which dynamically reformats full Web pages in order to fit the small screen of a mobile phone. SSR keeps as much of the original page design and layout as possible and adapts the page to fit the width of the screen, which means the user will no longer need to scroll horizontally.

As Microsoft pushes the old office suite forward once more. It seems that this new release will also make available versions of applications inside the suite, custom made for mobile devices

Everybody is expecting the release of a new Beta for Office 12 as Microsoft pushes the old office suite forward once more. It seems that this new release will also make available versions of applications inside the suite, custom made for mobile devices.

At the end of last week, Microsoft sent notices to the first group of testers accepted to participate to the Office 12 Beta 1 program. The company let the testers know they should expect to receive the Beta 1 code, documentation
and support sometime in the next two to three weeks.

In addition to the Office 12 desktop suite, Microsoft is also updating the Exchange Server and SharePoint Portal Server products.

Still, the issue of Office 12 for Windows Mobile is not very clear as none of the Microsoft representatives made any official statements on the subject. We are aware of rumors from partners close to Microsoft who said there is another Office 12 suite, designed for Windows Mobile, that will include viewers for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and these applications should be light enough to run on smartphones and PDAs.

Visitors to the world athletics championships in Finland have had to brave wind and rain, and officials say they now face the possibility of catching the world’s first mobile phone virus.

Officials in mobile-mad Finland, home to the world’s largest mobile phone maker, Nokia, said there had been outbreaks of the Cabir virus at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium.

Jarmo Koski, a security official at telecoms firm TeliaSonera, said: "At most we are speaking about dozens of infections but during a short period and in one spot this is a huge number."

Cabir, first reported in June last year, uses Bluetooth short range wireless signals to jump between mobile phones.
