Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) would begin 4G rollout in phased manner in 2015. This was announced by Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of the Reliance Industries at its 40th Annual General Meeting today. Airtel launched its 4G LTE services starting from Kolkata, back in 2012. Today it has launched 4G on mobile in the city. Airtel would also offer live demos in Airtel’s company operated stores and also let users to upgrade to 4G SIMs. It offers separate 4G packs for prepaid customers and offers Airtel myPlan, customizable plans for postpaid customers that has myBoosters with 4G benefits. Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) that nationally operates its telecom services under the MTS brand has launched MTS Blaze 5.0, the company’s latest dual SIM (CDMA+GSM) smartphone in the Blaze series. It packs a 4.5 FWVGA display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Tata DOCOMO launched Photon Max Wi-Fi dongle last year. At the launch Tata Docomo offered speeds of up to 6.2 Mbps. Today the company has announced that it has upgraded the data speed of up to 9.8Mbps for the dongle since they have upgraded their network. All existing customers will automatically be able to access the higher speeds on their network as the network upgrade will be compatible with existing Photon Max Wi-Fi devices. This is currently available for customers in Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. It would be subsequently extended to 8 other metro cities. Videocon Telecom has announced that it has partnered with Huawei to implement 4G LTE-ready Packet Core technology. Under this partnership, Videocon Telecom would use Huawei’s Evolved Packet Core (EPC) technology for the Core Network that would allow them to cater to its nationwide 4G data services rollout. Airtel has launched 4G services in Jalandhar, Punjab.Airtel launched its 4G LTE services in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula in Punjab and Haryana last March and rolled out voice services on 4G in these three cities earlier this month. It also launched its 4G services in Ludhiana earlier this month. In Jalandhar, Airtel customers can access 4G on dongles, Wi-Fi CPEs (Customer Premise Equipment/ routers) and mobile phones. Airtel has launched 3G services in Punjab. It rolled out 4G services in Chandigarh – Tricity last year and in Ludhiana in Punjab last week. It offers 2G, 3G and 4G services in these two areas in Punjab and it also offers 4G on mobile in Ludhiana. Verizon Wireless has launched XLTE, a new LTE service for their customers in select cities that would offer twice the LTE bandwidth. This uses 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum, in addition to the usual 700 MHz spectrum. Verizon promises faster peak data speeds and a minimum of double the bandwidth in high traffic areas with XLTE.
