Xiaomi is all set to enter the African market in September, according to a report from Forbes. It has partnered with pan-Africa distributor, Mobile in Africa Limited to sell its smartphones in 50 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, said the report citing the distributor’s president, tech entrepreneur RJ van Spaandonk. Xiaomi smartphone codenamed Libra with 1.44GHz Hexa-Core Snapdragon 808 (MSM8992) SoC and Android 5.1.1 surfaced last month on Geekbench. There was even a rumor that Xiaomi might release a Mi 4i variant with a Snapdragon 808 SoC, now the same Mi 4i variant codenamed Mi-4c has surfaced on AnTuTu benchmark.

Xiaomi has announced that it sold 800,000 Redmi Note 2 smartphones in the first 12 hours of sale, which is a new record for the company. Xiaomi launched the Redmi 2 Prime smartphone in India last week for Rs. 6,999. We already brought you the unboxing of the smartphone, here we have the benchmarks. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) SoC that has four ARM Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.21GHz per core, similar to the Redmi 2, but this has 2GB of RAM. It’s in the size of your palm, can be carried in your pocket and weighs just 100 grams. The main highlight of the wireless router is that it has micro USB input that lets you power it using a power bank since it consumes just 36W power. Xiaomi just announced the Redmi Note 2 smartphone at its MIUI 7 event, as expected. It packs a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) display, is powered by a octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor and runs on MIUI 7 based on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF), resulting in a quick focus of just 0.1 second. It also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a Magnesium alloy frame and is 8.25mm thick.
Xiaomi launched the Redmi 2 Prime, the company’s first smartphone that is Made in India. It is the enhanced version of the Redmi 2 that was launched in the country earlier this year. It is priced at Rs. 6,999 in the India and is currently on sale on Mi.com and across all Mi India partners including Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal.
