Apple puts up WWDC Banners, likely confirms iOS 7

Apple has put up their banners for the WWDC, scheduled for next week that reveals the iOS 7, the next iteration of the iOS software. The X symbol far away in the image also confirms the new OS X version. We still don’t know how the iOS 7 would look like as Apple keeps it a secret as usual. Samsung beats Apple’s US Smartphone marketshare says Canaccord Genuity

Investment research firm, Canaccord Genuity, has surveyed retail stores of all the four major US carriers and has come to the conclusion that Samsung’s trio of Galaxy S3, S4 and the Note II outsold Apple’s handset in May.

Chrome 27 for iOS brings improved voice search and faster reloads

After launching Chrome 27 for the desktop and then for Android, Google has gone ahead, like promised, and launched the Chrome 27 for iOS. The new version adds an improved version of voice search, with a persistent bar for immediate access and faster page reloads by efficient use of the cache. The update is live on the app store and you can get it here.

Apple pushes for license deals as music streaming service launch at WWDC beckons

Apple, especially, Steve Jobs, is known to be a hard negotiator. Having revolutionized the digital music industry with the iTunes store, the media industry is no stranger to the ways and methods of Apple negotiations. But recently, Apple seems to have been going through a hard time negotiating with record labels and artists for one little reason, they are late. The music streaming service, which was pioneered by various start ups like Pandora in the US and Spotify in the Europe, is a novel way to listen to music, for free. Supported by advertising, the streaming services apparently make far less money than the traditional a la carte way of buying music, like the iTunes. They might be late but that doesn’t stop Apple from launching their own streaming service, because that’s the demand of the day.

Apple’s iPhone sales grow 400 percent in India

Credit Suisse has issued a note to clients stating that iPhone sales in India have shot up by close to 400 percent. Reported by the Economic Times, the note suggests that the EMI plans and other schemes initiated in India have had the desired effect resulting in quadrupled sales.

Apple supply chain to shift from Foxconn to Pegatron

In a move aimed at giving Apple greater supply chain balance, the company is expected to shift over a greater percentage of manufacturing to Pegatron. Historially, Foxconn has been responsible for the production of all iPhones and iPads. However starting 2011, Pegatron has been responsible for making a small segment of iPhones and has since graduated on to production of the iPad Mini.

Tablet shipments expected to exceed total PC shipments in 2015

IDC, the analysis company that analyses several markets every quarter has released a report that Tablet shipments are all set to overtake total PC shipments in 2015. With a rapidly growing tablet market, IDC notes that the landscape is changing after the flood of low cost Android tablets with screen sizes less than 8 inches, which might contribute as much as 57% of the total tablet market in 2017, while the rest is constituted by bigger tablets, mostly the iPad. The iPad mini too might be a  proven driver in the sales of small tablets.

ASUS Fonepad vs Apple iPad mini

We just finished reviewing the ASUS Fonepad and witnessed a launch of its beefed up variant too, but that won’t stop us from comparing the new calling tablet from ASUS with the similarly priced small tablets that we have in our labs. Like we compared it with the Samsung Galaxy Note 510 and the Galaxy Tab 2 310, we are now comparing it to the Apple iPad mini, which is probably the best small tablet money can buy right now. Android at 75% marketshare, Windows Phone finally ahead of BlackBerry – IDC

Previously, a month ago, IDC released statistics for the whole mobile phone market, which highlighted the smartphones overtaking feature phones for the first time ever in the first quarter of 2013. Now, they have revealed the marketshare of smarphone platforms, which makes for a very interesting analysis altogether. Android has kept on soaring with a 79.5% change YoY, and a massive 75% marketshare, a number even the yesteryear Symbian failed to achieve with its massive presence. The total shipments of 162.1 million devices is in line with what Google announced last night, of the 900 million activations till date.

Apple, while at a distant second place with just 17.3% marketshare rules the smartphone market together with Android, taking over 92.3% of the whole smartphone market. The surprising addition and change here is from Windows Phone, which has finally leapfrogged BlackBerry with a measly 3.2% marketshare and a whopping 133.3% growth change YoY.

Jon Rubinstein, creator of the Apple iPod and former CEO of Palm joins Qualcomm board of directors

Jonathan Rubinstein more popularly known as Jon Rubinstein is a pretty famous name in the tech industry and famous for heading the iPod project at Apple. He later left Apple to join Palm and was later appointed as CEO. He subsequently joined HP after HP’s much criticized  acquisition of Palm. Rubinstein was the person behind webOS which ran on handsets like the Palm Pre and HP Veer and even the TouchPad tablet. He quit HP in January 2012.
