Apple updates App Store pricing with 700 new price points

Apple has announced the biggest change to the App Store’s pricing since its first launch. Developers will now have access to 700 new price points and new pricing tools that, according to the company, “will make it easier to set prices per App Store country or region, manage foreign exchange rate changes, and more.” Recently, Apple’s App Store Awards announced the Best Apps and Games of 2022. Apple App Store will soon support purchase options outside iOS app, offer expanded price points and more

In a landmark agreement, Apple has decided to introduce a change in the App Store that will give developers the ability to share purchase options  outside of their iOS app with users. Apple reduces App Store commission down to 15% for developers earning less than $1 million

After nearly 12 years since it launched, Apple is finally reducing their App Store commission down from 30% to 15% for developers who have earned less than $1 million in a financial year. This change in App Store policy comes at a time when Apple is fighting a major lawsuit against Epic Games, who accused Apple of anti-competitive restrictions in their marketplace.

Google Play Store clocks the most downloads but still lags behind App Store in revenue

According to new statistics released by App Annie Index, Google’s Play Store exceeded the iOS app store by 45% in total downloads but still lagged behind when it comes to actual revenues. Worldwide, it is clear that Android is dominating the market, with over 80% marketshare, which has led to a surge in downloads from emerging markets like Russia and Brazil, but the downside is that a large number of apps on Android are free or based on the freemium model, which drastically lowers the barrier of entry, keeping the target markets in mind, whereas Apple’s iOS enjoys higher marketshare and install base in developed countries.
