Xiaomi introduces portable WiFi router, to ship in a range of colors

The Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi, just announced a new portable WiFi router product. Called the MI Portable WiFi, it will be available starting January 2014. There’s not much in the name of specifications as the company has only shown it off on Twitter. Xiaomi will be retailing the product in a range of six colors and there’s no word on pricing. Sony DSC QX10 and DSC QX100 Camera Lenses officially launched for $250 and $500 respectively

Hot on the heels of the new camera-centric Sony Xperia Z1, the company just announced their new range of camera lenses at the Pre-IFA press conference. The Sony DSC QX10 and DSC QX100 are one of a kind camera lenses that act as your Smartphone’s own camera, with the former acting as the camera’s viewfinder. It is a pretty intriguing concept only slightly hindered by the pricing, coming in at $250 for the QX10 and $500 for the QX100. The QX100 is a high end camera lens with specifications of the RX100MII Point and Shoot camera, while the QX10 is a cheaper long zoom camera lens, both with a wireless viewfinder as the display. Apple acquires WiFiSLAM indoor-GPS mapping company for $20 million

In a bid to strength its mapping application and positioning technology portfolio, Apple has acquired WiFiSLAM. The Silicon Valley startup has been working on improving on and facilitating indoor navigation using Wi-Fi triangulation as opposed to the GPS based system in place as of now.

RIM and Nokia enter into patent licensing agreement

To resolve existing patent litigation between RIM and Nokia, the two companies have decided to enter into a licensing agreement. Nokia had previously demanded  a sales injunction on BlackBerry over the Finnish company’s patents around WiFi networks. While the specific terms of the agreement remain confidential, the financial structure will include a one time payment and on-going payments to Nokia.
