Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display Unboxing

We finally got our hands on the second generation iPad Mini which is also known as the iPad Mini with Retina Display and here is our unboxing which also features the first gen iPad mini and the all new iPad Air alongside for a quick comparison. Find the video below. The iPad mini 2 and the iPad Air went on sale in India on December 7. The iPad mini with Retina Display starts from Rs.28,900 for the base 16GB WiFi only version and the version we are unboxing is the 32GB WiFi+Cellular version which costs Rs.44900. The mini uses a nano SIM card just like the iPad Air and the iPhone 5s and 5c. For the first time there is a 128GB version too on sale costing a massive 49,900 for the WiFi only version and  Rs.58,900 for the WiFi+ Cellular version.

Apple iPad Mini refreshed with a retina display, A7 64 bit processor and a $399 price tag

Along with the new iPad Air, Apple has also refreshed the “mini” version. Yes, the iPad mini has gained the much awaited retina display upgrade along with the new A7 64 bit processor that debuted on the iPhone 5s recently. Otherwise, the device is almost untouched but to be frank, the iPad mini’s retina display and the A7 are substantial upgrades to the device, and it will make it much more viable than before. This is now really just a smaller version of the iPad, the complete functions in a smaller form. It is priced at a higher $399 for the retina version while the original iPad mini now retails at a lesser $299 along with the newer version.

New iPad and iPad Mini reportedly go on sale starting October 30th or 31st

It’s now public knowledge that Apple is organizing an event on October 22 for a refresh of the iPad and the iPad mini along with a refresh for the Macbook Pros too, but reports are now coming in that the availability of these new products will be very close to launch. A report from french site MacG pegs the availability dates for the new iPads, including the new retina mini for October 30th or 31st. This is in line with most Apple launches, and going with the track record of MacG we assume this data is correct.

Samsung and Apple might be involved in a lot of patent cases, but their partnership continues to flourish. Samsung is tipped to be the provider of the retina display for next generation iPad mini that is rumored to arrive by the end of this year.

We just finished reviewing the ASUS Fonepad and witnessed a launch of its beefed up variant too, but that won’t stop us from comparing the new calling tablet from ASUS with the similarly priced small tablets that we have in our labs. Like we compared it with the Samsung Galaxy Note 510 and the Galaxy Tab 2 310, we are now comparing it to the Apple iPad mini, which is probably the best small tablet money can buy right now. Apple iPad mini Hands on Photo Gallery

Apple unveiled the iPad mini with a 7.9-inch (1024 x 768 pixels) display at 163 ppi and a dual-core A5 processor  last month. I got some hands-on time with the WiFi version of the iPad mini. It went on pre-order on October 26th in over 30 countries and the WiFi version goes on sale in those countries today (November 2nd) and the WiFi + Cellular version would be available by mid-November. The iPad mini with WiFi is priced at $329, $429 and $529 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions respectively, in the U.S., while the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB WiFi + Cellular versions would cost $459, $559 and $659 respectively.
