SpaceX launches first six satellites for T-Mobile’s direct-to-cell service

T-Mobile has partnered with SpaceX for the launch of its first set of Starlink satellites with Direct to Cell capabilities. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket launched the satellites yesterday and is currently in low-Earth orbit.

Ericsson, T-Mobile ink $3.5 billion 5G agreement

Ericsson and T-Mobile today announced a multi-year, $3.5 billion contract to support T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network deployment. Under the deal, Ericsson will provide T-Mobile with the latest 5G New Radio (NR) hardware and software compliant with 3GPP standards.

T-Mobile and Sprint agree to merge in a deal valued at $146 billion

After T-Mobile and Sprint said they have ceased discussions to merge into a single entity back in November, both the company today announced a they have entered into a definitive agreement to merge in an all-stock transaction at a fixed exchange ratio of 0.10256 T-Mobile shares for each Sprint share or the equivalent of 9.75 Sprint shares for each T-Mobile US share. A lucky Samsung Galaxy Note5 user receives update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Just yesterday, we reported the leaked roadmap for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade path for Samsung phones. In the roadmap, the Galaxy Note5 along with the S6 edge+ was scheduled to receive an update to Marshmallow in December 2015. However, one lucky user has apparently already received the update to Marshmallow on his T-Mobile Note5.

Apple teams up with T-Mobile in the US and EE in the UK for Wi-Fi calling

T-Mobile will offer Wi-Fi calling on the newly launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the US while EE will provide the same in the UK. The popular US and UK carriers will be the first one to partner Apple for this feature that will allow users to make phone calls using a Wi-Fi network.

Sony launched their current flagship – Sony Xperia Z1 in September, 2013 during IFA and it has been the company’s flagship till now. Last year at CES 2013, Sony had announced their twin flagships – Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, and hence we expected there was some speculation that Sony will be unveiling something in the smartphone category at CES 2014. We were right, they did announce a smartphone with top of the line specifications, but it isn’t exactly the company’s flagship. T-Mobile USA to Begin Selling Apple Products in 2013

Today, Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann announced at his company’s analyst day event that T-Mobile USA will begin selling Apple products in 2013. T-Mobile also made the announcement in a press release. The carrier did not mention specific products, but Apple’s iPhone and iPad lineup are the only cellular enable devices offered by the company.

“T-Mobile USA has entered into an agreement with Apple to bring products to market together in 2013,” the release said. T-Mobile is the fourth largest carrier in the U.S., but regardless of its size, the iPhone has not been offered on that carrier to date. In addition, T-Mobile USA will also be offering LTE service for its customers in 2013.

Apple also confirmed to The Loop that it has struck a deal with T-Mobile.
