Oculus has started shipping the first Rift for pre-orders, after nearly four years of crowdfunding, developer kits and acquisition by Facebook. Oculus has announced that it will start accepting pre-orders for its Rift VR headset from January 6 on the company’s website. However, there is no information about the price of the Rift VR headset.

News reports about Samsung working on virtual reality headsets surfaced online in May this year. Now, SamMobile has revealed that the Korean electronic giant is calling it as the Gear VR and it will debut at the IFA 2014. The report has posted an image of the Gear VR that will reportedly debuted alongside the Galaxy Note 4 at the event. As reported earlier Facebook’s Oculus Rift will collaborate with Samsung for the software of the device.

As Virtual Reality technology improves, we’re seeing an increasing level of attention from mainstream players. Following Sony’s lead that introduced its Project Morpheus headset to compete with the game changing Oculus Rift. Today, Samsung’s plans to enter the virtual reality headset market got a bit more concrete.
The Korean company has filed a patent application with the United States Patent Office which gives us a hint as to what the device might be named. Samsung is working alongside Oculus to create a headset that would work with its line of handsets. Called the Galaxy VR, the headset is expected to include a dock for their handsets. Facebook is on a buying spree. Recently, it had acquired the messaging company Whatsapp for a record $19billion and now, it has acquired Oculus Rift, a virtual reality company. Oculus first demonstrated the prototype in June 2012 at E3 and then raised crowd funding for its Oculus Rift product.
