Nokia Lumia 925 vs HTC One Quick Comparison

The Nokia Lumia 925 launched the day before yesterday, invoking various reactions from the internet, including ours, which is detailed in the hands on post here. This new Lumia device with a metal frame loses a lot of weight and has slimmed down, mainly for people who were holding out on the 920 because of its bulkiness. We had explained the differences between it and the 920 here, which would make sense of this device’s release. At the event, once we were done with the Lumia 925 photo gallery, we were looking to compare it with various flagship devices. Nokia Creative Studio gets a massive update for Lumia WP8 devices, we go hands on!

Along with all the Lumia 925 stuff that happened yesterday, Nokia revealed some interesting software additions and updates in the announcement. While the highlight was on the Nokia Smart Camera lens, the picture editing app exclusive for Lumia devices, also called as the Nokia Creative Studio received a rather huge update yesterday. The new update comes with the version number 5.0.7.6, and is available for download here. The update is available for all Windows Phone 8 devices and introduces various new features. Naturally, we went hands on with it and found it to be quite nice actually, take a look –

We have been bringing you a lot of Nokia Lumia 925 coverage live from London, including a photo gallery, a Lumia 925 hands on and even a Samsung Galaxy S4 comparison video, so, following that tradition, here is our comparison of the Lumia 925 with its older brother, the Lumia 920. It is an interesting comparison because the Lumia 925 is a natural evolution of the Lumia 920, with it fixing many perceived flaws and shortcomings like thickness, weight and slightly mushy camera. Nokia Lumia 925 has a “world’s first” 6 element smartphone lens and can go up to ISO 3200

Right when we were thinking what was new with the Nokia Lumia 925’s camera, we just happened to see some tweets from Nokia’s Imaging team. Having launched the device in London today, Nokia have confirmed that the Lumia 925 has a slightly updated camera, both in terms of hardware and software. In terms of hardware, the Lumia 925 is supposedly featuring a “world’s first” 6 element lens, unlike the usual 5 element lenses on various smartphones. On the software front, apart from all the Smart Camera features, the camera can go up to ISO 3200 now, whereas ISO 800 was the previous limit on the Lumia 920. For comparison sakes, the Nokia 808 PureView can go up to ISO 1600.

Nokia Lumia 925 with aluminum build announced, coming in June for EUR 469

At an event in London, Nokia has just announced its next Lumia phone. Called the Nokia Lumia 925, it provides the features of the Lumia 920 in a slimmer shell. The phone has a metal band running around the body of the phone. The back plate ships in two colors, silver and grey. Over at the back you can spot an OIS capable camera at the back of the phone with an LED flash.

To build on the camera experience, Nokia has added in a new camera lens that tacks on a range of new features. It can take 10 images at one click for powerful new creative possibilities, such as Best Shot, Action Shot, and Motion Focus. This camera app will be rolled out to the entire Nokia portfolio via an update called the Nokia Lumia Amber update. The phone doesn’t support wireless charging internally but will be compatible with charging covers.

Nokia teases new Lumia phone on British TV ahead of London event

You might be aware that Nokia is hosting an event in London this week on May 14 where the Finnish handset market is expected to announce a new Lumia phone. We have been hearing a lot of rumours about the phone code-named “Catwalk” in the last few weeks. Nokia might finally make this phone official and call it the Lumia 925. The company has been teasing the new phone in a commercial aired on British television earlier today. The phone in the video looks a lot like the one spotted in the Catwalk leaks. This device certainly must pack some impressive camera features as Nokia decided to use the words “more than your eyes can see” in the teaser. I am right now sitting at an Airport in Chennai waiting to board my flight to London to cover the Nokia event.

Nokia Lumia 928 with 8.7 MP PureView camera, OIS and Xenon flash coming to Verizon for $99

Nokia has just announced its new PureView device, the Lumia 928 for Verizon. The highlight of the phone is its pairing of a Xenon flash with the optical image stabilization assembly from the 920. The camera is a 8.7MP unit which will let you shoot images in both 4:3 and 16:9 mode without cropping. The camera module has a f/2.0 aperture.

The Nokia Asha event at the Taj Palace hotel, New Delhi is about to get in full swing in a few moments, after which they might announce the Nokia Asha 501, which leaked last night, or may be more(?). Apparently, Nokia doesn’t want you to miss out on the action, so they have arranged for a live webcast on http://conversations.nokia.com. You can check out the post directly, if you want to, here. The live stream is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m IST, with Nokia CEO Stephen Elop reportedly presiding over the keynote.

Nokia Asha 501 picture leaks out along with rumoured specs just before official announcement

While we were pondering on what Nokia has up its sleeve for tomorrow, Evleaks, the master of leaks has done it again and has leaked out the upcoming Asha device slated to be launched in New Delhi tomorrow. According to the leak, the device is known as the Nokia Asha 501, which marches into the 5-series territory currently occupied only by the Lumia in the form of 510 and 520. While the picture doesn’t say much about the device, we expect it to be in line with previous leaks from the same Evleaks. The Asha refresh is a long time coming and with an impending launch tomorrow at New Delhi, Nokia is all set to compete with the low end Android devices with a better experience squarely in aim.

Finland negotiates with India for the Nokia Tax case

Nokia and the Indian government have been at odds for quite a while regarding a purported Tax evasion by the Finnish company. A lot of multi-national companies like Vodafone and Shell too have been facing the heat regarding similar tax evasion cases. Nokia in particular had its Chennai Sri Perumbudur plant raided by the Income tax department. Finally, the Indian government decided to slap a tax demand of around Rs. 2000 crore for tax evasion, and a case was filed in the Delhi high court regarding the same. As of now, the case has been stayed and Finland has now come in aid of Nokia, with them proposing a mutual agreement procedure with the Indian Government based on a Tax treaty between the two countries.

YouTube finally gets a huge update on Windows Phone 8, graduates to a fully functional app

Microsoft and Google have not always been best of friends by any means and that had meant no official blessing for any Google services on Windows Phone. It was a huge pain for people using Google services and they were huge in number. YouTube is also one of the most used Google services, probably next to Gmail, and its official app on Windows Phone, published by Microsoft was a link to the mobile web version of YouTube until today. Now, the official app, still made by Microsoft has gotten a huge update and is finally a real app. With support for every YouTube client feature you’d want, the app has been finally released onto the Windows Phone store.
