Is Motorola making the next Google Nexus?

google-moto-x-eric-schmidt

Rumours of a Motorola made Nexus device were ripe once Google acquired the mobile giant, but plans never solidified, citing reasons like “Google not impressed with Moto’s devices” etc. With LG taking charge of the program last year with the Nexus 4, Motorola was left to work on the Moto X, a Google inspired smartphone that is possibly the first device to come out of this acquisition. But this was no Nexus, it didn’t run the latest operating system nor updates will be pushed by Google, so yet again we were deprived of a Moto Nexus, but if recent rumours are to be believed, especially coming from a prolific tipster from Texas(where Motorola assembles its Moto X), the chances of Motorola making the next Nexus 5 device are rather high.

google-moto-x-eric-schmidt

Seemingly controlled, yet another new Moto X leak has been let loose on the Internet. This time, it’s not the Google Chariman, but the Canadian carrier Rogers. In a “Tech Talk Experts” video, Rogers shows off the black Moto X, which very much looks like the Nexus 4, but shows off rather intriguing functionality. The Moto X is always listening to your voice for commands, just like the Google glass and will let you talk to it, without touching the phone. Much like the Microsoft Kinect on the Xbox One, Google Now always keeps its ears open for a specific command, in this case – “Ok Google Now”. A few more interesting features have been revealed, but watch the video first –

Woodside claims that this will be achieved by the use of dual processors though he did not clarify whether this meant the use of ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture or a physically distinct low power mode chip. Motorola has also been working on the use of low power sensors and the results of that research will be seen in the Moto X which will be a contextually aware handset as claimed by Woodside.  Continue reading “Motorola’s flagship Moto X to be out by October”
