Sony has started rolling out Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) update for last year’s Xperia Z lineup that includes, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z as it promised. Sony is yet to start rolling out the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update for their devices, but an XDA user has posted Android 4.3 (v10.4.B.0.569) ROMs for the Xperia Z (C6603) and the Xperia ZL (C6503). The version is tagged as “Commercial&Journalists”, so it is not clear if this would the final version, which is expected to roll out later this month. Sony announced its latest flagship device, the Xperia Z1 here at IFA in Berlin and we’ve already gone hands on with the camera centric device. It competes within its own stable with the Z Ultra that is also a relatively recent launch for the Japanese smartphone manufacturer. While they don’t exactly compete with each other, here’s a quick break down to see how the handset fare when placed next to each other.
The design language of the Z1 and Z Ultra is very similar and they most definitely do appear like they belong to the same family of smartphones. The front of the Z1 has a 5 inch Full HD Triluminous display with Sony’s X-Reality Engine thrown in for good measure.The Z Ultra on the other hand has an absolutely gargantuan 6.44″ screen. The resolution is the same as the Z1 at 1920 x 1080 with the pixel density dropping down to 342ppi versus the 441ppi of the Z1. The screens on both the phones are a much needed improvement over previous gen Sony devices and have fairly wide viewing angles and good color reproduction.

Sony has finally started rolling out the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) update for the Xperia Z soon after the roll out for the Xperia ZL. The version number for the update is 10.3.A.0.423 . The update is now available for Spain and the Ukraine for the LTE model (C6603) and for the carrier variants in Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and the Netherlands. After making its presence felt at the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas this year, the Sony Xperia ZL, a full HD smartphone from Sony landed in various countries alongside its thinner brother, the Xperia Z. Running on Android 4.1.2 at launch, the device had a custom Xperia UI on top like usual, and now news comes our way that the Android 4.2.2 update for the Xperia ZL has started to roll out, starting today.

You might have seen the Sony Xperia Z in the ads recently, and wondered why the purple one looks so unlike reality? Well, it’s rendered in CG and hence all you see are just fake reflections and colours. If you had read our Xperia Z review, you would know why we liked the waterproof aspect of this phone. We already had done a photo gallery too, but alas it was the white version. So, to show you the brilliant purple Xperia Z in its full “real” glory, we decided to take it out and give it a good look in front of our cameras. Sony Mobile has launched the Xperia Z, their latest flagship device in India. It was announced at CES 2013 earlier this year, and appeared on Sony India website last month. Sony announced the Xperia Z launch date in India last week, and the Xperia ZL also launched along with the Xperia Z. Price of both the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL were already revealed online. The Xperia Z has a OmniBalance design with rounded edges and smooth, reflective surfaces on all sides. It has durable tempered glass on front and back. New images of Sony Xperia Z (C660X Yuga) has surfaced online. These images look like screencasts from a promotional video. This reveals that the smartphone would come with a Full HD Reality display with Bravia Engine 2, 13MP Exmor RS camera, HDR mode for Videos, OptiContrast Panel for high contrast and natural colours and a Skeleton frame structure.
