Tell me voice assistant aka Cortana rumoured to launch on Windows Phone this April

Long rumoured voice assistant, codenamed “Cortana”, is all set to make its beta appearance on Windows Phone, starting April 2014, according to a very credible source – @msftnerd. The Siri-like feature is reportedly voiced by Jen Taylor, who actually did the voice acting for Cortana, an AI character in the hit game-series “Halo”. The voice assistant, which might carry the name “Bing Tell me”, will launch for developers, in beta, in April, which coincides with the Build 2014 Developer event by Microsoft. “Build” is where Microsoft plans to unveil information about the next release of Windows, codenamed Threshold.

Google has updated its Chrome browser for Android and iOS devices that brings data compression and bandwidth management. This lets you help you reduce data usage, which can reduce data usage by up to 50% while browsing on-the-go. This uses Chrome’s Safe Browsing technology that helps protect you from malicious webpages, says Google. Opera Mobile for Android already has this feature called Off-Road mode with built-in Opera Mini compression. Apart from the gallery, the app has cloud service integration, automatic grouping, gif support, video playback and more. AOSP Gallery shipping with CM currently is severely lacking. we sought to address that, says CyanogenMod. Facebook rumored to launch Flipboard competitor Paper this month

Facebook would launch Paper, a news reader app for mobile devices in coming weeks, according to a report from Re/code. The company launched a redesigned messenger app recently for both Android and iOS with a flatter design. Google launched Google Currents back in 2011 to compete with Flipboard, but it didn’t do well. Samsung has started rolling out Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) update for the Galaxy Note 3 starting from Poland, according to a report from Sammobile. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was the first phone from Samsung to run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) out of the box. The company released their Galaxy Tablets at the CES 2014 last week running on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Looks like the Note 3 is the first Samsung smartphone to run on Android 4.4. Nokia brings folders to Windows Phone with its Black Update for all Lumia WP8 devices starting today

One of the most requested features on Windows Phone(since 7), creating folders on the start screen, has been fulfilled by Nokia in its latest firmware update “Lumia Black”. The update, slated to be available for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices, was already available for the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia 1020(AT&T), but begins its official rollout with the brand new folders feature today. Nokia has been the clear leader in Windows Phone, so it bringing a highly requested feature is nothing new, as we have seen so many features being implemented by the company in the past. The new folders feature will just be one among the many that Nokia users will get with the latest Lumia Black update that will eventually roll out to all the Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices soon.

Samsung Galaxy S3 gets Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in India finally

Samsung has finally started rolling out Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update for the Indian Galaxy S3 users. The update brings, Galaxy Gear support, improved Samsung Keyboard, new GPU drivers, New S-Voice (from Galaxy S4) and lots more. Samsung paused the roll out globally in November last year due to software issues weeks after the roll out and resumed it early December. Purported new Samsung TouchWiz UI leaks, Magazine UX and flat icons revealed

Samsung not only unveiled its new tablets yesterday, but also showcased a new Magazine UX for those devices, with panes and tiles reminding us of Flipboard and the Metro UI of Windows 8. Today, we are getting to see leaked images of, what is supposedly, the new Samsung TouchWiz UI for phones. Featuring stylish flat iconography and similar Magazine UX elements, the new TouchWiz, if real, seems like a step in the right direction. At least it is now heading to a place where the whole industry already is – Flat user interfaces. The typography also seems to have gotten a facelift too, but with just three screenshots, it is hard to tell which is which and how all of it will work like.

It also announced that the app is now free forever, including in-app purchases. It would work with Google to build new apps. These companies did not reveal the price of the deal.
