Android passes 1 billion activations, 1.5 million devices activated daily

Back in July, at Google I/O, Sundar Pichai announced that the total number of Android activations had surpasses 900 million. Ever since that announcement, the whole of Tech industry has been expecting when the Android activations will hit the magical billion. Yesterday, Sundar Pichai, via his post in Google+ announced that Android has surpassed 1 billion activations so far.

Last year, in September, Google announced that the total number of Android activations had surpassed 500 million with 1.3 million activations per day. This year, the number has doubled and the number of activations per day has rose from 1.3 million to 1.5 million.

Essentially, there are a billion Android devices out there in the world and the rate is increasing rapidly at 1.5 million activations per day. Last month’s Android distribution break down revealed that more than 40% of Android devices are on Jelly Bean, 2.6% increase from 37.9% in July. Google is yet to release the distribution chart for last month.

Alcatel refreshes the One Touch series with super thin Idol Alpha, Idol S and Idol Mini smartphones

Alcatel, the French company well known for its Enterprise level communications equipment is also responsible for some of the consumer facing devices in the One Touch range of Android Smartphones. After launching the One Touch Idol X, the flagship of the portfolio, the company has also released three other phones in all sizes and prices. The three new phones that have launched in the One Touch series are the Idol Alpha, the Idol S and the Idol Mini. This is along with the new Phablet and the Tablet from the same series.

Alcatel One Touch has announced the One Touch Idol X, the company’s latest flagship smartphone. It has a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) 2.4mm edge-to-edge capacitive touch screen IPS display with 170 degrees wide viewing angles. The display is based on one-glass solution (OGS) that reduces the phone’s thickness and has Dragontrail Glass for protection. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13.1-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5cm macro lens, 1080p video recording and a 2-megapixel 1080p front-facing camera. Micromax Canvas Ego A113, a new smartphone from the Canvas series is now available in India from online retailer Snapdeal. It has a 4.7-inch (960 x 540 pixels) display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Micromax launched the Micromax A110Q Canvas 2 Plus recently, and this one lies between the A110Q and the A116 Canvas HD. Sony IFA 2013 Press Conference Live Blog

FoneArena is live in Berlin , Germany for IFA which is one of the largest technology shows of the world. Sony is holding a press conference later today where the company is expected to announce the much rumored Honami / XPERIA Z1 smartphone and a couple of very interesting lenses. Much is already known about the Sony Z1 and it is said to pack in a Snapdragon 800 processor with a very interesting 20MP camera. The design is believed to be a play on that of the Xperia Z and Z Ultra.

Intex launched the Aqua i7, the company’s flagship Android smartphone at an event earlier today. Now the Aqua HD, a new smartphone has appeared on the official website. It has a 4.7-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589 processor and runs on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. This would compete with the iBall Andi 4.7G Cobalt since both have similar features. Rockstand enters into tie up with Vodafone for operator billing

Vodafone today announced a tie up with Rockstand which is one of the leading eBook and Magazine applications from India. The tie up beings up an interesting offering which should help drive reach substantially. Rockstand will now be offering a subscription option exclusive to Vodafone wherein users can purchase books and magazined at just Rs. 7 per day. In addition to this, Vodafone customers will have access to the same wide range of eBooks and magazines including a wide variety of regional content for which users will be able to pay through their mobile balance. The partnership will prove to be critical in driving growth in the tier 2 and rural segments of the country. Rockstand has recently crossed 50,000 downloads and continues to grow at a steady clip.

Did Google just accidentally leak the LG Nexus 5?

Having announced the Google KitKat partnership for the next version of Android, the company released a video showing a celebratory installation of the new mascot in GooglePlex. This video might have looked normal at first, but keen eyes spotted a weird new device with the Nexus branding on the back. Could this be the unannounced Google Nexus 5? Also, if the logo is inspected at close, it looks to be made by LG. Unless our eyes fool us, this might actually be the upcoming Nexus 5 phone from Google, made by LG.

It has a 5.0-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display, powered by 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED Flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has Matrabhasha a multi-lingual application introduced with the entry-level phones recently. It lets users operate the phone in preferred regional language supporting upto 22 regional languages. Lava E-Tab Velo+, a new tablet in the Lava’s E-Tab range is now available in India from online retailer Snapdeal. It has a has a 7-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capactive multi-touch display, powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), similar to the recently launched XTRON+. It has a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera, but lacks a rear camera. It doesn’t have a SIM card slot or voice calling capabilities, but supports dongles. Apple sends out invites for a colourful September 10th event, hints at iPhone 5C

Apple has finally decided to make the yearly “new iPhone” day official. September 10th is the date, so mark your calendars if you haven’t already, because it’s been a while since Apple reporters predicted the exact launch date of the new Apple iPhone(s). With coloured flat bubbles dominating the invite, it’s quite easy to understand that the iPhone 5C might be what Apple is indicating here.
