Bharti Airtel and Tata today announced that they have entered into an agreement to merge Consumer Mobile Businesses (CMB) of Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited (TTML) into Bharti Airtel. As a part of the deal, Airtel will take over Tata’s consumer operations across the country in nineteen circles (17 under TTSL and 2 under TTML) with over 40 million customers joining Airtel and assets of Tata CMB.

Jio Payments Bank is likely to start its operations in December this year. It is a a joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and SBI. The Jio Payments Bank will join the likes of Payments bank from Airtel, Paytm, India Post, and Fino Payments Bank. Latest State of Mobile Networks report in India from OpenSignal reveals that Airtel still has fastest download speed among the four national 4G operators. It has an average download speed of 9.15Mbps, compared to Reliance Jio which has download speed of just 5.81Mbps, which is actually behind Vodafone and Idea with 7.45Mbps and 7.4Mbps download speeds, respectively.
