Vodafone are set to re-enter the US market as a MVNO running on the T-Mobile network. Reliance Communications (Rcom) has launched Free Facebook Fridays offer for its prepaid GSM customers that enables them to access Facebook for free without any data charges, account balance or deductions from their preferred data pack on Fridays. It is not clear if this offer is for a limited period. Rcom had already launched several offers, including free Twitter access for three months, and Facebook and WhatsApp packs and more. Priced at Rs. 149 for each country, this offers up to 97% discount on outgoing and incoming call charges to and from India while on international roaming on select operators as well as data usage and SMS facility, says the company. Vodafone UK have today announced that their 4G Roaming network is now available in 17 additional countries around the world. The new countries brings the total included in the superfast roaming network up to 40 countries and makes Vodafone the largest 4G Roaming network in Europe. EE is set to axe its iconic “Orange Wednesdays” 2-for-1 cinema ticket offer from 25th February next year. The offer was originally started by Orange ten years ago and enabled EE mobile and broadband customers to a free full priced cinema ticket every Wednesday (when purchasing another). BT looks set to push ahead with a deal to purchase O2 after opting for the network over bigger rival EE. According to a report published by This Is Money, the O2 deal will cost BT a little less than acquiring EE but despite the latter having 3 million more customers, a potential acquisition would have faced significant regulatory hurdles. Aircel has partnered with Hungama to offer the Hungama-Pro for free for the first two months. This enables customers to listen music and view full length HD quality music videos for free. Hungama offers Indian, International and Regional music. Hungama has multi-lingual transliteration feature in five languages that includes, English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Punjabi, allowing users to interact with the app in their preferred language. Three UK have revealed that their superfast 4G network is now available to 48% of the UK population with 3.1 million of their customers are now using the next-generation network. Three was the last network to roll out 4G ten months ago and despite the 48% coverage, they are still behind EE (78%), O2 and Vodafone (51%). O2 have stolen a march on its rivals by launching the new Google Nexus 6 in the UK a few days ahead of Carphone Warehouse. The handset is available on O2’s Refresh tariff and is available to both new and existing customers. The retailer is offering a special deal on the handset, offering unlimited minutes and texts with 2GB data each month for £38 per month. BT is expected to decide whether to make a bid for mobile networks O2 or EE by Christmas according to the Chief Executive of one half of EE’s parent company. NTT Docomo has expanded its inbound LTE roaming service in Japan for customers from the Azores, Australia, Christmas Island, Greece, Madeira, New Zealand and Portugal. This will enable customers from 37 countries and regions have access to Docomo’s extra-high-speed LTE network (up to 150Mbps), Xi (read crossy) when traveling in Japan beginning December 5. O2’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronan Dunne, has claimed that reports of a takeover of the operator by rival Three UK is unlikely. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Three could join both BT and Vodafone in eyeing up either EE or O2 for an acquisition but O2’s CEO says that a Three takeover is the least likely of all scenarios. Vodafone Ireland has begun rolling out its next-generation 4G+ LTE-Advanced network in Waterford City with further plans to roll out the service in the cities of Cork, Dublin and Limerick by the end of December. Videocon Telecom has announced that it has upgraded its network to 2.75G EDGE (Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution) by investing around Rs. 130 crores.
