The world’s most popular Windows Phone turned into a life saver for a police man in Sao Paulo, Brazil where a couple of robbers opened fire at him in his house. The Lumia 520, which was sitting in his back pocket took a bullet, and in the end saved his life, and literally his behind too. Nokia, being known for its build quality, will certainly take this as a positive result, but we are sure any phone would have done the same.

Apple scoops up low-power display company LuxVue

Apple has acquired LED maker LuxVue for an undisclosed sum, according to a TechCrunch report. The startup specializes in power-efficient displays that could be used in small consumer devices lacking space for bulky screens or batteries.

Xolo Q900T with 4.7-inch HD display, 1.5GHz quad-core processor announced for Rs. 11999

Xolo has announced the Q900T, the latest smartphone in the Q CORE series and the successor of the Xolo Q900. It has a 4.7-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display at 312 ppi with 178-degree wide viewing angle and a 2.5 D Edge-to-edge curved glass on the front, similar to Xolo X1000 that was released last year and the rear panel too looks similar to X1000. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor that is clear from ‘T’ in the model number of the phone. It runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), similar to most of the Xolo phones. Jury says Samsung infringed Apple patents, orders to pay $119 million in fine

The long going Apple and Samsung patent trial received another hearing and decision from the US federal jury. In its verdict, the jury found Samsung guilty of infringing on two of four Apple patents, the ‘647 patent for data detectors and the ‘721 patent for “slide-to-unlock”. However, the jury said that Samsung did not infringe the ‘959 “universal search” patent or the ‘414 “background sync” patent.

Windows Phone 8.1 File Manager app teased, may come this month

File management is one of the most underrated features of a mobile operating system. For any platform to be truly independent, a file manager that allows local storage and management of any kind of file, is a necessity and with Windows Phone 8.1, this is finally happening. After moving to WinRT APIs for its latest mobile release, Microsoft has finally added the ability to download or upload files on the phone’s browser or through various apps, using the file picker. The file picker naturally necessitates a file manager, which will be released as a standalone app by Microsoft, as revealed and teased on a Reddit AMA, by the company’s Windows Phone champion, Joe Belfiore. The app is almost ready and is reportedly set to release this month.

Micromax is working on their first LTE smartphone that would be powered by NVDIA’s Tegra 4i processor, according to a Twitter user @LeaksterInc. The user has also leaked the press image of the smartphone that resembles the Wiko Wax smartphone from the French manufacturer Wiko. Micromax was the first Indian OEM to launch Tegra 2-powered smartphoneMicromax A85 back in 2011, but it did not tie-up with NVIDIA after that. Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the Galaxy Note 2 last week France. The update is now rolling out for the Note 2 users in India. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 got the KitKat update in January and the Galaxy S4 got the update in February. The Galaxy Note 2  got Android 4.1.2 update back in December 2012 and got the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update directly, skipping Android 4.2, back in November last year. Samsung schedules health-focused event on May 28th

Samsung has scheduled an event in San Francisco on May 28th to discuss about something related to Health. Since this comes from Samsung’s Semiconductor arm, it could be related to forthcoming sensors and components, rather than some new fitness device, says Engadget that received the invite. Samsung launched its new Gear devices, including the Gear Fit, a smartband recently. All these accessories have Heart Rate sensor to monitor the heart rate.

LG G3 leaks again in live images, shows off ultra-thin bezel

Earlier this week LG confirmed several simultaneous events on May 27th and 28th in different cities worldwide, where the company is expected to unveil the LG G3. The back of the smartphone was leaked recently showing off the rear buttons. Today, more live images of the smartphone got leaked on a Korean website that shows the front part of the phone with ultra-thin side bezels for the first time. Amazon’s smartphone revealed in new render

We all know about Amazon’s foray in the smartphone market as few details have already surfaced online. Last month images of the 4.7 inch phone with six cameras were leaked. This was followed by another report suggesting that the phone will have tilt based gesture control. Today BGR has revealed a new image of the Amazon smartphone that is ready for a June launch, according to WSJ report.
