Best budget smartphones of 2013 Competition

The year 2013 has been great for the smartphone market, especially the Indian smartphone market. The year 2013 saw the rise of numerous Indian manufactures thanks to “open-source” Android operating system. Towards the end of 2012, only Karbonn and Micromax had established their grip in the mid-range smartphone segment with value for money smartphones. The year 2013 helped the Indian manufacturers expand their market share by offering Full HD display smartphones with Quad-core processors for affordable price points.

Nokia Moneypenny Dual SIM Windows Phone 8.1 handset reportedly in the works

Nokia Normandy, a large screen Asha phone leaked a couple of days back, now evleaks has hinted that the Nokia smartphone codenamed Moneypenny would come with dual-SIM support. The twitter user already revealed that the Nokia Goldfinger and Moneypenny would be the first Windows Phone Blue devices. Windows Phone Blue is the codename for Windows Phone 8.1, which would see a drastic change unlike the GDR updates. Nokia has just announced the Lumia 525, their new affordable Lumia Windows Phone 8 handset and the successor of the Lumia 520 that was launched earlier this year. It has a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) display at 235 ppi, super sensitive touch for finger nail and glove use and is powered by a 1 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor. It has a 5-megapixel auto focus rear camera with 720p HD video recording, packs 1GB of RAM and a 1430 mAh battery. Nokia Normandy leaks out, likely to be a large screen Asha phone

Earlier this month evleaks revealed codenames of the upcoming Nokia phones, Goldfinger, Moneypenny, Normandy, Phantom, Spinel. Now the Twitter user has posted a render of the phone. It already revealed that “Nokia Normandy is the missing link” In the latest image it says that A real Asha. Or Lumia? So the Nokia Normandy is likely to be the combination of the Asha and Lumia. Nokia Music is now MixRadio, offers personalized radio with PlayMe

Remember the Nokia Music app and service that launched along with the first Lumia devices? Well, that’s now rechristened as Nokia MixRadio as the service has evolved from an a-la-carte store to a streaming service, most notably with its Windows app. The Mix Radio experience is more in line with current demands of music discovery and free streaming, like Pandora and Spotify. Well, technically, it requires a music unlimited subscription that comes with most of the Lumia devices that are on sale today, but you get the personalized radio service now, which aims to be much better than the Mix Radio offering that was offered before.

WhatsApp for Nokia Asha 501 finally arrives through a software update

Nokia has finally released WhatsApp for Asha 501 through a software update as the company promised at the Nokia World last month. WhatsApp launcher will appear on your home screen after the update that lets you download and install the full app. In addition to the WhatsApp support, the major software update also brings the new UI and features present on the recently announced Nokia Asha 500, 502 and the 503 and WhatsApp comes pre-loaded on all these devices out of the box.

Google Search update for Windows Phone brings improved voice search, image viewing

Given the strained relationship between Google and Microsoft’s Windows Phone smartphone OS, we’re pleasantly surprised to report that the official search app on the platform just got a pretty major update. The search app which till now essentially let you use Google Search on a Windows Phone device has been updated to support sign ins with your Google account. Shareholders approve sale of Device & Services division in Nokia – Microsoft deal

At the long awaited extraordinary meeting in Helsinki today, shareholders have approved the deal that will allow the sale of Nokia’s Devices and Services unit to Microsoft. The deal was met with near unanimous approval with close to 99.7 percent of holders agreeing with the sale. Viber now available for Nokia Asha 308, Asha 310 and Asha 311

Viber cross-platform VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) app is finally available for select Nokia Asha devices, Asha 308, Asha 310 and Asha 311. In addition to voice calls over 3G or WiFi, the app also lets you send messages, photos, location and also supports groups. It also offers notifications for new incoming messages. The app was released for iPhone, and was released for Android in 2011. It was updated to version 4.0 for both Android and iPhone last week that brought Sticker Market, Android Tablet support and more.

Nokia Lumia 2520 to go on sale on 22nd November, priced at $399 on AT&T

AT&T customers in the US will be able to get their hands on the all new Lumia 2520 tablet starting 22nd November. Nokia’s first Windows RT running tablet will go on sale and will be priced at $399.99 with a two year contract. The price further drops down to $199.99 if you also bundle in a Nokia Lumia 925, 1020 or 1520 smartphone in your two year agreement. Nokia Camera App gets DNG support in the latest update

When Nokia unveiled the Nokia Lumia 1520 at the Abu Dhabi event a month ago, some of the important features of Lumia 1520 were its PureView camera and Lumia Black software update. Today, Nokia has updated its Nokia Camera app and the update v4.4.0.8 brings along with it, support for DNG capture (Digital Negative Format) for Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1020 which are running on Lumia Black update.

Nokia’s Refocus app now available for download on Lumia PureView Smartphones

Nokia Refocus, the app that lets you focus your photo AFTER you take it, is now available for download on all Nokia Lumia PureView devices. Demoed back at the Nokia event in Abu Dhabi, the app grabbed some major eyeballs when other companies are looking for a hardware implementation of this on their phones. But this is not a hardware solution, it’s just computational photography which uses neat tricks and the immense know-how from Scalado to work some Lytro-like magic and that too, using just an app for Lumia PureView devices. It is now available for download at the Windows Phone Store for the Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928 and the Lumia 1020 running the Windows Phone 8 Amber update.
