@MichaelxHell’s Nokia N8 Hands-on Impressions Part 1: Hardware

It’s been very quiet around Nokia the last few months. After the big N-Series failures from the last Years (N97, N96, N85, N76 etc) a lot of people, me included, turned away from Nokia, jumping ship to either Android or Apple. And for a good reason i must say, i’ve experienced Android with a HTC Hero that i bought via Contract and i must say i was impressed. And it continued with the Hero from there, with Android gaining a lot of strength. However, as much as i love the look and feel of Android, i missed the allround capabilities of a Nokia Phone. I’m a multimedia guy, always been, so N-series have always been my choice. I always had love for the Android OS, but not so much for the Devices. HTC puts in some pretty neat internals in the phone, however misses a good camera or decent speakers. Sony Ericsson had okay (although plasticy) hardware, but their OS failed. I have yet to try any LG products, but you see from my Points that, no matter how good the OS is, i always missed the decent hardware. Symbian^1 may look and feel outdated, but the Hardware is what always made me come back to Nokia. Apart from that, the Community that Nokia has built is still unmatched and can never be beaten. This of course not only comes from their devices and its fans, a lot of the following also comes due to marketing stunts from wellknown british PR agency 1000 heads/WOM World Nokia.

However, there was still something missing. As good as Devices like the N900, the X6 16GB or even the N97mini were, i still had days where i went back to my Nokia N82, especially when on the road and i wanted to share some great pics. Now if you note, my N82 is more than 2 years old and still going strong. It’s been 2 years, since Nokia brought out a decent device for hobby photographers like myself. Yes there is the N86, but what did it really bring to the table? An 8 megapixel, carl zeiss equipped Camera, but with a dual LED flash. As good as the device was in daylight conditions, how could they even dare to label it as next photography device!? As soon as the sun went down, the N86 was just another phone with a dual LED. Tons of Nokia E7 Pics Leaked

The same guys who shared the video of the so called Nokia N9 have posted some cool pics of the device. This might be the E7 as it looks very similar to the E90 ! The hardware is marked as RM-626 and C0 and is a Nokia Protoype and not a final device. This is very old proto according to Eldar and final hardware might look different. How do you like the device if it was meant to be real ? It looks like a N8 with a 4-row QWERTY keypad.

UPDATE : E7 is official and here are authentic images

Is Nokia N9 a N8 with a QWERTY keyboard ?

The guys from NegriElectronics have kept their promise to show a video of the leaked Nokia device . They are still strongly calling it the N9.  Till know we were pretty sure that the N9 might be a MeeGo phone. But this thing is running on Symbian 3.  We are hearing from sources that the Nokia N8 has some siblings one of which might have a QWERTY keyboard. Having looked at the  Keypad it reminds of the N97 mini but this one has 4 rows unlike the min with 3 rows. We are not convinced that this is the N9. This might be a N8-01 or N8-02 or simply N8 QWERTY. It can also be the E7 or in a rare case the  C7 !

Watch the video after the break ! Continue reading “Is Nokia N9 a N8 with a QWERTY keyboard ?”

Pictures: Blue Nokia N8 compared to N900 and X6

As reported before, I was lucky enough to get invited to a special little Blogger event, hosted by Nokia Austria. We have been shown and demoed the Nokia N8, the latest photography flagship from Finland. Since the Device were still in proto status, we weren’t allowed any exhaustive hands-on times, but the bit we got to see really impressed. I was lucky enough to grab one of those N8’s and quickly shoot some size comparisons, with a Nokia N900 and a X6 16GB. Enjoy the Pictures!

Is this the Nokia E7 or N98 ?

A new Nokia device has been leaked ant it looks like a E90 Successor and seems also like a N series member on the exterior.  The guys who got of the Proto seem to think it’s the N9 and calling it the N900 successor but they don’t seem to know the difference between Symbian and Maemo / Meego . This device is pretty much running on some version of Symbian . By now we are pretty much sure that the N9 would be a Meego Device and would be the first handheld from Intel-Nokia marriage of Moblin and Maemo.  Interestingly the model number on this  leaked phone says its the N00 while the front says its C0

UPDATE: its the E7 and price is under 500 euros Continue reading “Is this the Nokia E7 or N98 ?”

Ridiculously Awesome: Your Phone As A Vuvuzela

You know the WorldCup, don’t you? Errr not that worldcup, the Football WorldCup! Well, if you watched only one second of any match, you must have noticed a weird annoying sound: that’s the Vuvuzela! Apparently, in South Africa, they can’t play football without that sound. Overly disturbing, isn’t it?

Well, the Vuvuzela seems to be all the rage nowadays and you have got to admit that after a couple of matches with its incessant sound in the background, you kind of, sort of, mildly, unconsciously get used to it. So not to be left behind, developers have jumped on the window of opportunity and started producing one Vuvuzela app after the other. I guess the age of fart apps and other bodily sounds is over. Too bad.

Anyway, there’s plenty of Vuvuzela apps in the Apple App Store as well as the Ovi Store. If you’re becoming too addicted to that monotone sound, just search your application store for “Vuvuzela” and you’ll probably find one (if not many) to help you get through those long, long hours when there is no match being played and your craving is overwhelming you.

But here’s the kicker, the ultimate FoneArena advice:

If you have a speaker around, be it portable or a good regular speaker, just hook your phone to it, for the ultimate Vuvuzela experience. Seriously. We tried it. We even shot a video, with the FoneArena fade-in and out, all serious and such. Here it is, showing the free MMMOOO Vuvuzela app from the Ovi Store (you can even change its color, and press several times to simulate multiple simultaneous Vuvuzelas!) running on my N97 Mini hooked to the Nokia MD-8 Mini Speaker. Enjoy, ehm, I guess.

Nokia C5 Review

Here are some live pics of the Nokia C5 from a Singapore event. The C5 reminded me a lot of the popular 6233 music phone .Back then that phone was running S40 but now the Nokia folks have managed to cram in Symbian in a similar form factor. The C5 might turn out to be a successful no-frills phone used mainly for calls or messaging. Check out the pics below ! Continue reading “Nokia C5 Live Pics”
