Nokia today announced a brand new S40 device, the Nokia 515, that has been designed as a throwback to classic handset designs from Nokia’s past. The body has an anodised, sandblasted aluminum construction and the 2.4″ QVGA display has Gorilla Glass 2 protection over it. The Finnish company claims to have developed a new hardened polycarbonate resin for the keymat that has a gentle curvature to it. The entire handset is 11mm thin and weighs in at 101.5 grams. Nokia has announced that they have shipped over 1.5 billion Series 40 (S40) phones. Their first Series 40 phone, Nokia 7110 was developed in 1999 that offered web-based functions, including email. The 1.5 billionth phone was received by a female consumer in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. Their latest S40 phone Nokia Asha 303 with QWERTY keypad, Touch screen display and 1 GHz processor was announced at the Nokia World last year. During the keynote speech at Nokia World , the company has announced 4 new devices under its Nokia Asha series as part of its offering for developing markets. Headlining these devices is the Nokia 303.
Nokia announced its Dual SIM touch and type slider phone, C2-03 at Nokia Connection at Singapore. This phone also comes with Nokia Maps pre-loaded in it. Unlike the earlier versions of the Nokia maps on the S40 devices, this would support offline map viewing.

The upcoming Belle UI update might also be coming to S40 devices as can be seen from leaked images and a screenshot.
Jay over at MyNokiaBlog reports that the Belle UI might be making its way to S40 devices as well. The update scheduled to hit S^3 devices later this year brings a major interface haul to all current S^3 devices. The update integrates the top status bar adds new icons along with a performance boost.

Nokia seems to have a launched a fully loaded phone – the Nokia C3 , at a very affordable price. It’s the world’s first QWERTY phone based on the S40 platform. Till now S40 phones had only T9 keypads which were not comfortable to type a lot. The C3 brings messaging and social networking to the masses.
