Google Q1 2014 earnings reported at $15.42 billion, grow 19% YoY

Earlier today, Google revealed its results for Q1 2014 and posted revenues of $15.42 billion. Earnings per share were reported at $6.27 and this was below the estimated $6.42 per share. The company missed analyst estimates of $15.52 billion in revenue and it can be attributed to Mountain View’s recent stock split amongst other things. Google Camera app now available for download on the Play Store

Google has released their stock camera app in the Play Store for all the Android devices running on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and later. This has a new interface and adds a lens blur feature like DSLR. Lens Blur lets you change the point or level of focus after the photo is taken. Google announced the Project Ara developers conference for April 15th and 16th that began yesterday. Google would release the Project Ara gray phone in January 2015, according to CNET. The Project Ara team from Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) division at Google is working hard to bring the modular smartphone that would let users to swap the components easily to upgrade the phone. Gmail gets option to attach images backed up using Google+

Google has added a new feature for Gmail that lets you attach any image that has been automatically backup to Google+ from your mobile devices. This option would be enabled using a new Insert Photo button in Gmail that lets you access all your images. Gmail already has an option to attach images from your Google Drive. Google updates Terms of Service to explain email scanning for ad targeting

Google has revised its Terms of Service (ToS) for Gmail to explain how does it scans users emails for the purpose of ad targeting. The changes that took effect Monday April 14, 2014, specifically indicate that Google is using software to scan email when it is in transit or stored on Google’s servers.

Sprint rolls out Android 4.4.3 update for Nexus 5

U.S. carrier Sprint has announced that it would roll out Android 4.4.3 update (Build KTU84F) for the Nexus 5 users starting from April 14th. This is a minor upgrade that would enable LTE bands 26 and 41 and also bring some enhancements and bug fixes. Earlier reports revealed that Google would roll out Android 4.4.3 update for the Nexus devices to fix several bugs, including camera related fixes. Google Glass loses invite-only purchase in the US, but only for a limited time

Google Glass, the Mountain View company’s first wearable product that took the world by storm, started out as a preview, with an invite-only explorer program. But in a turn of events, Google will be selling the Explorer edition of Glass to anyone in the US, but with a tiny catch. It will be available only for a limited time frame, and only on April 15th, when it will be out for anyone to buy. All you have to do is sign up with your details on this page and you will be able to get the Glass on the 15th, but of course you have to be a US citizen and have to pay the same 1500$ price. But the upside is, you get a frame or shade, according to your preferences and there is no extra cost associated with it.

Google updates Chrome for Android Beta with new features

Google seems to be spending a lot of time and resources in adding features and functionality to its suite of applications that come with an Android smartphone. Android’s Verify Apps feature to continuously monitor for malware

All devices running Android 2.2 and above come with a “Verify Apps” feature built into the Google Settings application. So far this feature has been used to scan apps while installing. Google’s Project Ara gains a Modular Development Kit

Google might have sold off Motorola to Lenovo, but is keeping all those patents and research teams close to Mountain View. Motorola’s R&D initially unveiled a concept called “Ara”, the first modular smartphone that has the potential to totally change the way we look at, and buy smartphones. The concept is pretty simple, as it follows the typical “Build you own PC” method, which grants you the flexibility of choice in interesting permutations and combinations. Ara now belongs to Google, and naturally, we are seeing some momentum here, with them announcing a Modular Development Kit, using which hardware manufacturers or “Module Developers” can create different modules that will eventually turn up on your own custom Ara phone.

What started as a viral video is now in serious development in hands of Google which owns Android which is the most popular smartphone operating system.
