HTC confirms Android 9.0 (Pie) update for some of its devices

Google released Android 9.0 (Pie) earlier this week for its Pixel devices and also said that it is working with several OEMs to roll out the update. Now HTC has confirmed Pie update for its flagship smartphones, including the HTC U11 that was introduced running Android 7.1 (Nougat). LG G6 Android Oreo update finally starts rolling out in India, brings ThinQ branding

After V30+, LG has finally started rolling out Android 8.0 (Oreo) update for the LG G6 smartphone in India. This will turn the phone into LG G6 ThinQ and also brings out several new features, including new camera app layout, but it doesn’t bring AI Cam like the V30+. Xiaomi teases its new POCO sub-brand and POCOPHONE smartphone ahead of India launch

Xiaomi has finally started teasing its sub-brand POCO in India ahead of the launch of POCOPHONE F1 in the country. Jai Mani, lead product manager, Xiaomi India tweeted that he has been working on the project. Even though the phone it teased as POCOPHONE by Xiaomi for global markets, it is teased as POCO by Xiaomi in India, which rhymes like OPPO who launched the Realme sub-brand recently to take on Xiaomi’s Redmi.

Google confirms Android 9.0 ‘P’ as Pie; Stable update released for Pixel smartphones, Essential Phone

Google has finally confirmed that Android 9.0 ‘P’ will be called Pie, couple of week before the rumored date. It has also released final stable update for Pixel smartphones that can be downloaded from Android developer website here and also started rolling out OTA update (OTA images) for those who have signed up for beta program. It is also pushing sources to Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

Asus Zenfone 5Z update adds RAW support, Panorama, camera improvements and more

ASUS launched its flagship Zenfone 5Z smartphone in India last month at a competitive price tag of Rs. 29,999. Today the company has started rolling out a new update that brings several new camera features, including option to save images in RAW format, shoot Panorama pictures, turn EIS on or off, several camera improvements, WiFi stability improvements and bug fixes. Google expected to launch Android 9.0 ‘P’ officially, reveal its name on August 20

Google released final Android P Beta 4 (DP5) for Pixel smartphones last month. It already said that the final stable Android P 9.0 release for the Pixel smartphones is expected sometime Q3. Now @evleaks has tweeted that the launch date is set for August 20, which coincides with the Android O launch on August 21 last year on the day of solar eclipse.

OnePlus confirms Android P update for OnePlus 3 and 3T, will skip Android 8.1

OnePlus recently announced its software maintenance schedule for its smartphones starting from the OnePlus 3, and said that OnePlus 3 / 3T will get Android platform updates till November 2018 and guaranteed Android security updates till November 2019.  Even though last year it confirmed that the last major Android version update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T will be Android Oreo, last month it hinted at more exciting news about Android version updates for these smartphones will be announced soon. Google releases final Android P Beta 4 (DP5), stable release coming soon

Google released Android ‘P’ Beta 3 (DP4) for the Pixel smartphones earlier this month, now it has released final Beta 4 (DP5) for the phones, before the stable version releases. This has official Android P APIs (API level 28), available since Beta 2. It also comes with July 2018 Android security patch.

Xiaomi MIUI App Vault gets option to Check train PNR, Trending apps cards and more

Update 2 – July 2018: Xiaomi has added couple of new cards including ‘Check train PNR’ and ‘Trending apps’ to MIUI App Vault. Xiaomi has partnered with Ixigo for ‘Check train PNR’ service which can be used to check PNR status without leaving the home screen. Users need to enter their 10 digit PNR number for their upcoming train journey to see all the details. The card also shows recently checked PNR numbers which is really helpful as users don’t need to enter PNR number each time they check PNR status for the same journey. Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Android One smartphone with 5.84-inch FHD+ 19:9 display, AI dual rear cameras, 4000mAh battery announced

Xiaomi has announced Mi A2 Lite, the company’s latest mid-range Android One smartphone along with the Mi A2, as it had promised. It packs a 5.84-inch FHD+ 19:9 aspect ratio display with a notch, is powered by Snapdragon 625 with up to 4GB of RAM, runs Android 8.1 (Oreo), a 12-megapixel rear camera with flash along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera for AI portraits and AI scene detection. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera with AI portrait and AI Face unlock.
