Popular smartphone browser, UC Browser, just got an update to version 9.2 that brings with it support for add ons. The feature that has previously been seen on competitors like Dolphin browser opens up the browser to a lot of possibilities. Third party developers will now be able to create plugins or add ons that will integrate with, give additional features to the browser.

Sriperumbudur, a quiet town outside of Chennai, is now increasingly known for its sprawling automobile factories, electronic SEZs(Special Economic Zones), and of course, hot job opportunities. Several automobile and mobile phone giants are part of this story. It all started 10 years back, when automobile companies like Hyundai saw the proximity to a harbour huge enough to handle exports and set up bases here, quickly gaining this city the name “Detroit of India”.
In the same “Detroit of India” lies one of Nokia’s biggest production facilities. The opportunistic Nokia of the past saw the booming mobile market in India in the 2000s, and started setting up their assembling facility here, right in the heart of Sriperumbudur’s SEZ. The logistics for exports had already become robust, thanks to the omnipresent automobile industry in that area, so the opportunity was ripe.
On a surprisingly overcast day, I was on my second visit to Nokia’s Chennai facility with several other bloggers. Having already witnessed the marvel of a huge production facility the first time, I couldn’t wait to see what new tricks Nokia had up their sleeves. Spoiler: It’s the Nokia Asha 501.

Samsung is known for flooding the entire market with a plethora of phones and the Galaxy series is good example. You have a phone for almost any price range right from entry level to the flagship level. Samsung’s consistency has been one of its main reasons for success and it recently launched two “huge” phones – Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3.
Today we the have smaller of the Mega brothers and one of the Samsung’s most successful Galaxy phones in India this year – Galaxy Grand. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 was launched at the end of May while the Galaxy Grand was launched earlier this year in January. Google has announced advertisments on Google Maps app. When you search for a place on Google Maps, relevant ads now appear at the bottom of the screen in the search result. This comes as new paid click type that lets users tap or swipe upward on an ad to see more information about a business. It also shows directions, share with a friend, and more. Google has updated the Play Store app to version 4.3.10 that brings new features including recently updated section, combined updated notifications and lots more. This update also includes some UI tweaks to Play Books, Movies & TV and more. These are just minor changes, but the recently updated section would be more useful if you have lot of apps. Nokia Lumia 925 that was announced back in May, is now available for pre-order in India at a price or Rs. 33,999 from online retailer Flipkart. It has a 4.5-inch (1280 × 768 pixels)Pure Motion HD+ Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen ClearBlack display, powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and runs on the latest Windows Phone 8 with the Amber update that adds glance screen and other new features. The Lumia 925 went on sale back in June starting from Germany. It packs a 8.7MP auto focus rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), dual LED flash and 1080p HD video recording at 30fps. It has 6 element lens and supports upto 3200 ISO.

Here’s a surprise. Nokia has added one of the most wanted features to Windows Phone through a simple Extras+info update on Lumia devices running on the Amber update. It was previously revealed that Microsoft had added hooks to its Windows Phone GDR2 release for developers to latch on, and those were of the call and SMS blocking features that didn’t exist before. While we were hoping for some third party developer to do it, Nokia itself has come to the fore and added these much requested features to Windows Phone, which is much welcome. Yet another indication that Nokia is doing the work for Microsoft when it should be the other way in an ideal world.

LG has announced the Optimus L1 II, a new phone in the L Series II. It has a 3.0-inch (320 x 240 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz processor and runs on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 2-megapixel rear camera with VGA video recording. Apart from the screen size and the camera, other features are similar to the LG Optimus L3 II that was launched in India back in April. Gameloft has started rolling out a new version 1.1 update for the Gangstar Vegas, an open-world action game. This update is called Mojave Apocalypse, that brings eleven new missions with three new missions that has a new type of challenge, jobs, and races. The HTC One has proven to be quite a popular model for the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer and has got rave reviews across the internet including from us. The company is now all set to launch the coveted dual SIM model that also incorporates a micro SD card slot that has been missing from the single SIM international variant.
The handset supports both CDMA and GSMA networks on the first SIM card slot while the second will top off at EDGE speeds on GSM networks. The phone should have an MRP of Rs 49,500 though the MOP is expected to be around Rs. 48,490. Other specifications remain the same with the only addition being the micro SD card slot hidden under the removable back shell.
