Sony Ericsson post poor profits amidst crisis

Its a lonely world. Motorola was really feeling lonely, as Samsung, LG were reporting better profits while its prospects were hitting the floor. Feel no more. Sony Ericsson has finally heeled to its pathetic designs.

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is reporting a steep 97 percent drop in second-quarter earnings as tougher market conditions hurt its sales.

Chennai tops SMS usage in India survey says so

A new study in America reveals that Americans hardly use SMS technology and finish their social talks through calls and emails. This raises a question upon the trillions upon trillions SMS that were reportedly sent were nothing but marketing gimmicks and spam messages.
In the US, 82% of respondents indicated that they had never used the text messaging feature on their mobile phone. A full 3% indicated that they had used text messaging on, at most, a monthly basis, while 15% used text messaging “every week or more.”

Former EA Games executive launches gaming company Ngmoco

In an almost diminished scenario as there are not many real players in the industry. The risk is aplenty though the future is really highly promising. Yes gaming has been taken to an all time high. Thanks to handsets like N81, I phone, and more so because of the introduction of N-gage gaming platform. But I am not talking about the symbian scenario though. Its about Neil Young.

Neil Young, a former executive in EA games has quit from his job and started a new Gaming company, Ngmoco.

Nokia buys Plazes Location Based Social Network

Nokia acquired German Location Based Social networking start-up Plazes.com, as part of its push into offering internet services on its cell phones. Nokia is set to release GPS cell phones from its staples during this year and acquisition of the 13 people strong startup company makes sense.

Videocon to start telecom services from Chennai

Consumer durables major Videocon Group, which has bagged national telecom licence through its subsidiary Datacom Ltd, would roll out the GSM services from Chennai on August 15 this year.

Unveiling the plans, Videocon Chairman Venugopal Dhoot said that GSM services would be first launched in Chennai on August 15, to be followed by other metros, Kerala and North India.

“The national rollout plan will be completed in 18 months,” Dhoot added. Datacom intends to build up a subscriber base of around 10 million in three-four years of launch.

Datacom had obtained licences for providing GSM services in 22 circles across the country.

Dhoot said telecommunications would be a focus area for Videocon Group in the coming years and the group would invest around Rs 6,000 crore in this business. Continue reading “Videocon to start telecom services from Chennai”
