Nokia 6260 Slide: First S40 Phone with Assisted GPS and HSUPA

Nokia has launched one of the most advanced, fully featured slider handset powered by S40 OS – the Nokia 6260 Slide.

The Nokia 6260 slide comes with a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and LED flash, WiFi, 3G/HSDPA connectivity, and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. It also comes with GPS with A-GPS making the 6260 slide the first S40-based phone to come with such a feature. Moreover, it has TV-out functionality, stereo speakers and comes with 200MB internal memory and supports microSD card technology for additional storage.

Nokia Pulls Out Of Japan

There are huge places and markets where nokia has extended its presence and it has raised its claim to an extent that it is sheer monopoly dominance. But it’s hard to imagine if there is a market that would force Nokia to even move out to pull of its loses. Here is the market anyways, that’s made nokia do so., Japan. Nokia never had a huge presence there anyway [the total market presence was only close to 1%., phew are we talking Motorola or Nokia].

“In the current global economic climate, we have concluded that the continuation of our investment in Japan-specific localized products is no longer sustainable,” Nokia executive vice president Timo Ihamuotila said in a statement.

3G Mobile Blog reports that Sony Ericsson has announced the new 8.1 megapixel Cyber-shot 905 phone will come preloaded with Mobile Commerce’s innovative ‘NearMe’ application – so you can always find exactly what you’re looking for right around you. It will also be available for download onto the GPS enabled C702 Cyber-shot and W760 Walkman handsets.

BlackBerry Storm 9500 Touch Screen with Springs

RIM, the maker of the BlackBerry, is taking on Apple. with a touch-screen phone that puts a new twist on the technology. With the new model being announced Wednesday, the Blackberry Storm 9500, RIM is for the first time giving up the physical keypad in favor of a large screen, just like the one on Apple’s iPhone. But RIM has listened to users who find the iPhone’s glass screen awkward to type on because its virtual buttons provide no tactile feedback.

Storm features a revolutionary touch-screen technology that dramatically enhances the touch interface and enables easy and precise typing. Sony Ericsson Patent shows Camera Zooming using Motion Gestures

Sony Ericsson has filed a patent that allows zooming to be done just by the moving the camera back and forth. According to the patent, a reference object is needed to pre-determine the zoom factor that you want the lens to go. The actual camera works on 3264×2448 pixels, and the video shoots at 30 fps.

The phone has a built in GPS satellite receiver along with support for Assisted GPS that allows for faster GPS triangulation. It will come pre-loaded with Wayfinder Navigator software which provides turn-by-turn navigation system and directions.

Blackberry Storm Touchscreen unveiled

The first ever touchscreen Blackberry handset, Storm, has been confirmed after Vodafone offered the device as a competition prize on its website.

It is not known exactly when the device will be available yet, but the fact that Vodafone is already pushing it suggests it could hit stores in time for the Christmas market.
