Airtel to launch 4G services in Kolkata this month, appoints ZTE to manage the network


Bharti Airtel is all set to launch 4G services in India later this month in Kolkata. Bharti Airtel’s CEO Sanjay Kapoor confirmed it in GSMA event in New Delhi. It would also be the first operator in the country to launch 4G services. It is based on 4G LTE-TDD technology that would offer speeds up to 100 Mbps. NFC-enabled handset shipments reach 30 million units in 2011

According to a report by research firm Berg Insight, global shipments of handsets featuring Near Field Communication (NFC) has reached 30 million units in 2011 from about 3 million units in 2010. Idea Cellular has launched its 3G services in Idukki district including towns in high range like Adimali, Munnar, Kattapana, Thekkady, Mayiladumpara, Anakara, Cheruthony, Kumily, Thadiyampadu and Nedumkandam. Idea 3G is now available across all the districts in Kerala. Idea launched 3G service in Kerala last April that is available in Kottayam, Kochi, Calicut, Trichur, Palghat, Kannur, Malapuram, Alleppey, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Trivandrum and Nedumangad. Reliance CDMA Android Tablet launched for Rs. 12999

Reliance Communications (Rcom) has launched Reliance CDMA Tab, their new Android tablet for their CDMA customers in India. They launched their Reliance 3G Tab last year. This tablet has 7 inch (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen and runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Airtel offers Double data on GPRS packs in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh


Airtel has doubled the data benefits on its GPRS packs for its pre-paid customers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. These packs range from Rs 12 to Rs 98 that would offer double data. Rs 149 will continue to offer 4GB of data including 2GB of night data (11 PM to 6AM) and 200 MB of Facebook data.
