Vodafone UK have today announced that their 4G Roaming network is now available in 17 additional countries around the world. The new countries brings the total included in the superfast roaming network up to 40 countries and makes Vodafone the largest 4G Roaming network in Europe. Three UK have revealed that their superfast 4G network is now available to 48% of the UK population with 3.1 million of their customers are now using the next-generation network. Three was the last network to roll out 4G ten months ago and despite the 48% coverage, they are still behind EE (78%), O2 and Vodafone (51%). NTT Docomo has expanded its inbound LTE roaming service in Japan for customers from the Azores, Australia, Christmas Island, Greece, Madeira, New Zealand and Portugal. This will enable customers from 37 countries and regions have access to Docomo’s extra-high-speed LTE network (up to 150Mbps), Xi (read crossy) when traveling in Japan beginning December 5. Samsung introduced its first version of Simband a while ago and the company revealed new details about its health monitoring wearable at its recently concluded annual developer conference in San Francisco.
Samsung at their keynote presentation announced that they are opening up the platform to developers. Huawei and Russian operator MegaFon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the development of 5G technology with a view to a potential launch in time for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The MoU builds on a partnership between the two companies that stretches back to the deployment of GSM in 2002. The MoU is likely to mean 5G services could become available to participants and guests at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and as part of the MoU, the two companies will work together to plan, build and deploy 5G network infrastructure. MHL introduced MHL 3.0 with support for 4K last year. Now it has introduced an MHL Alternate Mode (Alt Mode) for the USB Type-C specification. Now a USB Type-C reversible connector can support the MHL 3 specification, which includes 4K video, ability to control your phone using the TV remote, and lossless surround sound audio. Mobile devices with USB Type-C MHL Alt Mode can also connect to HDMI legacy displays using adapters that support MHL-to-HDMI protocol conversion.

OmniVision Technologies has introduced OV23850 and OV21840, new 23.8-megapixel and 21.4-megapixel camera sensors in the PureCel-S series aimed at high-end smartphones. These are based on OmniVision’s advanced stacked die process, which separates the imaging array from the image sensor processing pipeline into a stacked die structure providing additional sensor functionalities, such as phase detection autofocus (PDAF), two-dimensional contrast fast autofocus and HDR video, while maintaining a small footprint, says the company. T-Mobile will offer Wi-Fi calling on the newly launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the US while EE will provide the same in the UK. The popular US and UK carriers will be the first one to partner Apple for this feature that will allow users to make phone calls using a Wi-Fi network.
