Vodafone India today announced that it has partnered with WhatsApp to promote and educate users to use the app in local India language. Vodafone said that it is one of the first operators to start such an initiative and aims to empower its consumers to connect with each other in a language of their preference. WhatsApp is available in more than 50 languages, including 10 Indian languages and has over 200 million monthly active users in India. ASUS has announced price cuts for their Zenfone 3 and Zenfone 3 Max series of Zenfone smartphones in India. Even though the company did not mention the reason for the price cut, this could be due to GST. The Zenfone 3 5.5-inch has received a huge Rs. 3000 price cut and few other smartphones have received Rs. 2000 price cut. Some of these Zenfone 3 smartphones got VoLTE support earlier this year. Nubia today announced that it will launch a new smartphone in India on July 5th, which will likely be the Nubia N2 that was introduced back in March. The successor of last year’s N1 packs a 5000mAh battery that promises up to 3.2 days of battery life with daily use, has 4GB of RAM and comes with a unibody metal design. Moto India has silently launched the Moto E4 smartphone in the latest Moto E series in India and is also gearing to launch the Moto E4 Plus smartphone in the country soon. According to Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom, the phone is available from stores at an MRP of Rs. 8999. Both the phones were announced a few weeks back, but India gets the MediaTek version instead of Snapdragon SoC in some countries. As the Goods and Services Tax or GST started rolling out in India. Apple today officially slashed the price of all its products iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and iMac, including its latest iPad Pro and Macs that were introduced last month. Even with 10% of basic customs duty (BCD) imposed on mobile phones that are imported, after GST price of iPhone is still cheaper than before. iPhone has received up Rs. 6,600 price cut, iPad has received price cut by up to Rs. 3,900 and Macbook has received up to Rs. 11,800 price. In the wake of recent ransomware attacks, India is asking Microsoft to offer a one-time discount to the more than 50 million Windows users in the country, according to a latest report from Reuters. India wants the discount so users can upgrade to the latest Windows 10 operating system following recent ransomware attacks.
Xiaomi has achieved a new milestone by opening its 500th authorized service center in India in Bengaluru. With this, Xiaomi will provide an enhanced after sales service experience. Earlier this year it partnered with B2X, leading provider of customer care for smartphones for after sales service in India. At that time it had only 200 service centers across the country. Xiaomi’s service centers are now in 350 cities in 3 years since the company entered India.
Lenovo-owned Motorola has finally started rolling out Android 7.0 (Nougat) update for its mid-range Moto M smartphone in India. It was launched in the country back in December last year running Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). In addition to Android Nougat, the update also adds Duo video calling app to the smartphone. It doesn’t have any other changelog.

OnePlus launched its flagship OnePlus 5 smartphone in India on June 22nd and the phone went on early sales exclusively on Amazon.in starting at Rs. 32,999 on the same day and it went on open sale from June 27th. Today the company has announced that the smartphone has become the highest revenue-grossing smartphone in the launch week on Amazon.in. But it did not reveal the number of smartphones sold during the launch week or revenue made by selling the phone.
Canon today introduced EOS 200D / Rebel SL2, a new entry-level DSLR with a compact body with a grain-finish for a premium feel and weighs just 453 grams. It has a Dual Pixel CMOS AF, 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and the latest DIGIC 7 image processor. ISO speed reaches 25600, helping in reducing motion blur caused by slow shutter speeds, which is common especially under low light conditions. Amazon is planning to launch its Echo speaker with Alexa voice assistant in India by the end of this year, according to a new report from ET. Citing two people aware of the development, the report further stated that it has already begun testing its products through select company executives and analysts. Earlier in February, a separate report had said that Amazon is “putting together content and localising the service”.
