Despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian smartphone market recorded a decline of only 4% for the year 2020, shipping more than 150 million units in total. According to Counterpoint Research, the top 5 companies for the year were Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, realme and OPPO.
Xiaomi launched the Redmi 8A smartphone in India running MIUI 10.3 Global Stable on top of Android 9.0 (Pie). Back in June last year the Indian Government announced a ban on 59 Chinese mobile apps including TikTok and Helo saying that they are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order. Now there are reports that says that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has sent new notice to these apps last week saying that their answers and clarifications following the ban were found to be inadequate, so the temporary block has now been made permanent. POCO has confirmed the launch of POCO M3 smartphone in India on February 2nd on Flipkart. This was introduced back in November last year and packs a 6.53-inch Full HD+ LCD Dotdrop screen with 90.34% screen-to-body ratio, is powered by Snapdragon 662 SoC, 48-megapixel primary rear camera with LED flash along with a 2-megapixel 4cm macro sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
