After having launched a range of Android based smartphones in India, Lenovo has just went ahead and released its first 7 inch Android 4.0 tablet, the A2107 in India. The A2107 is Lenovo’s entry into the 7 inch tablet market that was made popular by the Galaxy Tab 2 310 and the Nexus 7. Centered around content consumption, the tablet has 3G data connectivity for internet access on the go.
The lower end tablet segment has been seeing a lot of entrants lately with offerings from the likes of MicroMax, Zync amongst others. Nokia Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820 has been priced at Rs. 36999 and Rs. 26999, respectively on online retail site Flipkart. Both these devices were announced announced last September. Huawei has finally announced the Ascend W1, the company’s first Windows Phone 8 device. This has a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) WVGA IPS LCD display with OGS Technology that reduces the light consumption to make the screen brighter and more vivid, 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 305 GPU. It has a 5 MP auto focus camera at the back with LED flash and a 0.3 MP front-facing camera. It has a 1950 mAh battery with unique power saving technology to save 30% of power. Simmtronics has launched XPAD X-801, their new Android tablet with 2G SIM card slot and voice calling support. The company launched the XPAD X-720, their first tablet with a 7-inch display in India last month. The XPAD X-801 has a 8-inch (800 x 600 pixels) capacitive multi-touch display, 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It has a 2MP rear camera, and a VGA front-facing camera. It comes with pre-loaded apps such as Youtube, PDF file viewer, Documents To Go, Sound Recorder, Skype and more. Polaroid has announced iM1836, the first interchangeable lens (mirrorless) Android camera at CES 2013, produced by Sakar International. It has a 18.1 megapixel sensor and comes with interchangable 10-30mm optical zoom lens and also accepts micro Four Thirds system lenses in other mirrorless cameras. Acer has finally announced the Iconia B1-A71, their new affordable 7-inch tablet running on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) at CES 2013. It ha a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) capacitive multi-touch display and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek MT 8317T processor. Huawei unveiled the Ascend Mate along with the Ascend D2 earlier today at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013. The Ascend Mate has a 6.1-inch 720p display unlike the Ascend D2 that has a 5-inch 1080p display. But the Ascend Mate has a 1.5 GHz quad-core Hi-Silicon K3V2 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) similar to the D2. Sony has announced Xperia ZL at CES 2013. This is a variant of the Xperia Z for select markets, and packs in similar features as the Xperia Z including a 5-inch Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Reality display with mobile Bravia Engine 2, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with Adreno 320 GPU and a 13MP camera with LED Flash, Exmor RS sensor for HDR images and video. It is not water or dust resistant like the Xperia Z and doesn’t have a glass back, but comes with a glowing LED indicator below the display. It comes with PlayStation Mobile support. It has a 13MP camera with LED Flash, Exmor RS sensor for HDR images and video. It has IP55 and IP57 ratings for dust and water resistance and has PlayStation Mobile support. Huawei has now arrived to the phablet party in a size that rivals the Galaxy Note II. Along with the Ascend D2, Huawei’s flagship device, the Ascend Mate has been announced at the Huawei CES press conference. The 6.1 Ascend Mate has a 720p screen and the same K3V3 1.5 GHz quad core processor that is produced in house, by Huawei. And even more amazing is the fact that the gigantic 6.1 inch display is supported by a huge 4050 mAH battery.

We have seen the leaks and we definitely saw this coming. Yes, Huawei has unveiled the new Ascend D2 and Ascend Mate at CES today, at their press conference. It has a 5 inch full HD 1080p screen, which means that it will join the ranks of HTC’s J Butterfly and many more Android devices to come this year. The phone sports a 1.5 GHz Quad core in house K3V3 processor and runs on Android Jellybean. The battery is rated at 3000 mAH and the device sports a 13 megapixel rear camera.
Intel just unveiled its new SoC platform for value smartphones in emerging markets. It is codenamed the Atom Z2420, and it directly aimed at the ever burgeoning mid range smartphone market that craves for powerful hardware. And it looks like Intel might have just the solution for value smartphones, yes, that’s what they call mid range devices now. The platform was unveiled today along with a reference device with a 3.5 inch screen, 5 megapixel camera that can shoot 7 frames per second and 1080p full HD video.
