Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, a cheaper version of last year’s Tab 3. This has a 7-inch (1024×600) TFT LCD display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI on top. It has a 2-megapixel rear camera. The Xolo Q3000 is the first device from the company to incorporate a full HD 1080p screen. Yes, it took a while for Xolo to do that, as we saw the 5.5 inch Q2000 sporting a 720p screen even when it had the MT6589 Turbo inside. But with the Q3000, Xolo has its first 5.7″ device as well as its first 1080p phone, so we felt it would be pretty interesting to check this phone out. Micromax has launched Canvas XL A119, the company’s first phablet with a 6-inch display. It has a 6-inch (960 x 540 pixels), powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Samsung has announced that they have sold (supply channel) 10 million units for Galaxy Note series smartphones in their home ground Korea. Since the launch of Galaxy Note back in 2011, it took 2 years and 1 month to achieve the 10 million mark in its domestic market. Back in October we reported that Huawei would launch four new Android smartphones, G700, G610, Y511 and Y320 in India soon. These phones went on sale online at the end of October. Now, Huawei has launched these phones officially. The Ascend G700 packs a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display, has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The G610 has a 5-inch (960 x 540 pixels) IPS display, 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Google has updated its Chrome browser for Android and iOS devices that brings data compression and bandwidth management. This lets you help you reduce data usage, which can reduce data usage by up to 50% while browsing on-the-go. This uses Chrome’s Safe Browsing technology that helps protect you from malicious webpages, says Google. Opera Mobile for Android already has this feature called Off-Road mode with built-in Opera Mini compression. Oppo has announced Oppo Neo, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone in Indonesia.The phone has a 4.5-inch (854 x 480 pixels) FWVGA IPS sensitive touch screen with glove mode, powered by a 1.3 GHz dual core processor and runs on Android 4.2-based Color ROM. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera without flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It also has 3G connectivity and Smart Dual SIM feature. The Spice Smart Flo Mettle 5x is a budget device that brings a large screen experience at a very attractive price point. The phone is powered by a 1.3Ghz Dual Core MT6572 processor paired with 512MB of RAM. You get a 5 inch display with a resolution of 480 x 854. We weren’t too impressed by the day to day performance of the device and noticed more than a few lags. BSNL, State Owned Telecom Operator has partnered with Champion to launch BSNL Champion My Phone SM3512 and SM3513. These phones hava a 3.5-inch capacitive touch screen display, powered by a dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). These have a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. These phones also have Dual SIM support and the SM3513 has 3G support. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite may not be official yet, but it sure will be among the cheapest tablets from Samsung when it is made official. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite’s user manual has leaked online in the company’s Polish website. Apart from the official leak, a Polish retailer has started taking orders for this cheap tablet – $165 for the WiFi model and $263 for the 3G Model.

Hewlett-Packard, one of the leading PC manufacturers had a shy at the smartphone market and met with little success. The company had backed out a couple of years back and now are reportedly re-entering the smartphone/tablet market. HP will reportedly announce two new devices – HP Slate 6 and HP Slate 7 phablet and tablet respectively in India later this year. HP is expected to make an official announcement very soon.

The new update brings Android KitKat features such as restyled status and navigation bars, full-screen mode, color emoji, smarter power use, new camera features, including the most expected manual focus and exposure control. Silent Circle, global encrypted communications service based in Washington D.C and the Spanish Android smartphone maker Geeksphone has announced Blackphone, in their first Switzerland-based joint venture. This is the world’s first smartphone with that would offer complete security, privacy and control to its users, says the company. This carrier and vendor-independent smartphone is powered by a security-oriented Android build called PrivatOS, but without compromising on security.
