Xiaomi’s MIUI is amongst the most popular Android skins with more than 300 million worldwide users. MIUI is a heavy skin on top of Android skin that offers various customizations but brings a good amount of bloat as well. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro was amongst the best selling devices launched in 2018 but it runs on Android 8.1 (Oreo) based MIUI 10 as of now. As per an official announcement, Redmi Note 5 Pro is expected to get Android 9.0 (Pie) in Q1 2019 but the public beta testing for the MIUI Global ROM hasn’t started yet.

Google will debut the first beta build of Android Q sometime before the I/O developers conference. It’s almost an year since Xiaomi launched its first set of Mi TVs in India and one can say they’ve had a good run, if not great. While there was only one 4K Mi TV at launch, the rest of 2018 saw Mi TVs hitting different price points with full HD and HD ready panels starting at a really low price of Rs. 14,999. This definitely helped push more sales but the flagship Mi TV, which launched at Rs. 39,999, a stunning price at that time, became Rs. 49,999 when it got upgraded to the Mi TV Pro. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was amongst the best selling devices launched last year in India, despite launching in 2017 it was launched with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and was updated to Android 7.0 (Nougat) in August 2017. OnePlus has released OxygenOS 9.0.0 Android 9.0 (Pie) stable update for its 5 and 5T smartphones, after it rolled out beta update couple of weeks back. This comes after the OnePlus 6 got the stable Android Pie-based OxygenOS 9.0 update back in September. The update brings new navigation gestures for the 5T, Google Lens integration in camera, Gaming mode 3.0 and more features.

Xiaomi India launched the Redmi 5 running MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat back in March. Last month it was updated to MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM which was based on Android 7.1 (Nougat) only but the company started rolling out Android 8.1 (Oreo) based MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM towards the end of last month. Update – December 25,2018: Xiaomi has started rolling out Mi A1 Android 9.0 (Pie) stable update for more users widely, including users in India. It has build number PKQ1.180917.001.V10.0.3.0.PDHMIFK, compared to v10.0.2.0 that rolled out earlier this month and is 1069.1MB in size, slightly smaller than the 1074.9MB. It brings December Android security patch. If you haven’t received the update, you can download it from here (or here) and flash it manually. If you have already reveived or flashed v10.0.2.0 update, you will receive a small update to 10.0.3.0 probably to fix bugs.
Xiaomi embarked its journey into the Indian smartphone market with Mi and Redmi series. Even though Xiaomi was in talks for its VFM smartphones, the major turning for the company’s is indeed the Redmi Note series and specifically Redmi Note 3. OnePlus has rolled out OxygenOS 9.0.10 update for the OnePlus 6T that brings several improvements, including improvements to Wi-Fi stability, Face Unlock improvements and Improvements to Nightscape performance. It has also released the first open beta update fore the phone that brings several new features.

Xiaomi rolled out Android Pie update to Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite users last month and earlier this month company started rolling out Android Pie update to Mi A1 closed beta testers. Now, Xiaomi has announced that it will no longer allow Mi A1, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite users to downgrade to Android Oreo after updating to Android 9.0 (Pie).
