Three UK 4G – 3m customers, 48% coverage

Three UK have revealed that their superfast 4G network is now available to 48% of the UK population with 3.1 million of their customers are now using the next-generation network. Three was the last network to roll out 4G ten months ago and despite the 48% coverage, they are still behind EE (78%), O2 and Vodafone (51%). Nexus 6 lands in the UK at O2

O2 have stolen a march on its rivals by launching the new Google Nexus 6 in the UK a few days ahead of Carphone Warehouse. The handset is available on O2’s Refresh tariff and is available to both new and existing customers. The retailer is offering a special deal on the handset, offering unlimited minutes and texts with 2GB data each month for £38 per month. BT to decide on EE and O2 bids by Christmas

BT is expected to decide whether to make a bid for mobile networks O2 or EE by Christmas according to the Chief Executive of one half of EE’s parent company. NTT Docomo expands inbound LTE roaming to 37 countries, regions

NTT Docomo has expanded its inbound LTE roaming service in Japan for customers from the Azores, Australia, Christmas Island, Greece, Madeira, New Zealand and Portugal. This will enable customers from 37 countries and regions have access to Docomo’s extra-high-speed LTE network (up to 150Mbps), Xi (read crossy) when traveling in Japan beginning December 5. O2 CEO: Three takeover is unlikely

O2’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronan Dunne, has claimed that reports of a takeover of the operator by rival Three UK is unlikely. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Three could join both BT and Vodafone in eyeing up either EE or O2 for an acquisition but O2’s CEO says that a Three takeover is the least likely of all scenarios. Vodafone Ireland launches 4G+ (LTE Advanced)

Vodafone Ireland has begun rolling out its next-generation 4G+ LTE-Advanced network in Waterford City with further plans to roll out the service in the cities of Cork, Dublin and Limerick by the end of December. Videocon Telecom upgrades its network to 2.75G EDGE

Videocon Telecom has announced that it has upgraded its network to 2.75G EDGE (Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution) by investing around Rs. 130 crores. Vodafone could be set to increase the convergence of communications providers in the EU with a blockbuster takeover of Virgin Media owner Liberty Global in a deal worth a reported £80 billion. Following BT’s pursuit of O2 and EE in the UK, Vodafone have been eyeing a major ISP in response and the acquisition of/merger with Liberty Global would represent a real challenge to BT’s supposed dominance (once their deal completes). BT in talks with O2 and EE over own mobile network

British Telecom is allegedly already in talks with UK network operator EE following the alleged approach by Telefonica to form a “strategic partnership” that would see BT buy the company’s UK operator O2. According to sources cited by Reuters, BT is currently in “early stage” talks with EE over a major deal which may yet present a challenge to Telefonica’s master plan. BT to buy O2 UK from Telefonica?

UK operator BT is rumoured to be in talks to buy O2 UK with O2’s parent company Telefonica seeking a strategic partnership with BT that would see it sell its mobile network in return for a 20% stake. According to a report on El Confidencial, Telefonica’s CEO César Alierta is exploring the partnership with BT to create a European Giant and whilst talks are at an advanced stage, “there is nothing concrete yet”.
