You might have seen Airtel’s Re. 1 Mobile Video commercial on TV during the IPL. The company has officially launched the Re. 1 mobile video downloads. This new VAS service would let you download videos across 8 genres including movies, lifestyle, music, comedy and more from a vast collection of 30,000+ videos. Qatar Foundation buys 5% stake in Bharti Airtel for $1.26 billion


Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator will sell 5 percent stake to Doha-based Qatar Foundation Endowment for $1.26 billion (~Rs. 6,800 crore) by issuing 199,870,006 new shares at a price of Rs. 340 apiece, according to a recent report from Economic Times. Bharti reported its 13th successive drop in quarterly profits yesterday, with a near 50 percent fall in profits compared with a year earlier. Spice Stellar Slatepad Mi-725 now available for Rs. 8499


Spice Stellar Slatepad Mi-725 that surfaced on the official website is now on sale from online retailer Saholic. It has a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz  processor and  runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS. It comes with a 3.2-megapixel auto focus rear camera and has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has 3G and voice calling support via SIM card slot. Spice launched the Stellar Pad Mi-1010, a 10.1-inch tablet earlier this year, and this is the company’s first tablet with 3G and voice calling support in the Stellar series. Reliance ties up with Aircel for 2G Intra-circle roaming

Reliance Communications has announced plans to expand its pan-India 2G network through 2G GSM Intra-Circle roaming agreements with existing operators to improve their network coverage. The company has announced that they have signed a pan-India 2G GSM ICR agreement with Aircel. They are in talks with several operators across the country for similar agreements. S Mobility has officially launched the Spice Mi-502 Smart Flo Pace 2, the company’s latest smartphone with a 5-inch (480 x 800 Pixels) capacitive touch screen display at an affordable price tag. The phone went on sale earlier today from the online retailer Saholic. It is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It packs a 5-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Micromax launched the A72 Canvas Viva recently for Rs. 6,499, but the Spice Mi-502 is better in terms of specfications. It has 2G (EDGE) and dual SIM support and packs a 2100 mAh battery. Idea Cellular is all set to launched a new Android Smartphone, Idea Whiz with a 4-inch WVGA display and a 1 GHz dual-core processor. The company launched the AURUS 2, successor of the first AURUS phone recently. Even though this has a larger display and a faster processor, the phone runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) instead of Android 4.1.  It has a 5MP auto focus camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera for video calling. The Samsung Galaxy S4 just launched in India today, and part of the announcement was the exclusive partnership with Vodafone for bundle offers. Vodafone, one of India’s largest mobile operators has special plans for the Galaxy S4, which we slightly touched upon in the launch post, and now we are going into the details. It has a 3.5 inch (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display similar its predecessor, but this runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and is powered by a 1 GHz processor, instead of 800MHz processor. It has a 3.2MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video calling. It is aimed at 3G users in semi-urban and rural markets. Vodafone India has partnered with ICICI Bank to launch M-Pesa, a mobile money transfer and payment service. It offers a simple and secure way to transfer money and make payments with the security of financial transactions provided by ICICI Bank. Vodafone India through its subsidiary, Mobile Commerce Solutions Ltd. (MCSL) and ICICI Bank announced the M-Pesa back in November 2012. Airtel has launched 2 new International Roaming Packs for post-paid mobile customers in India travelling to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, UAE and UK. This offers up to 2 hours of free incoming calls and outgoing calls for as low as Rs. 40/minute. Airtel launched US International Roaming Voice packs for post-paid customers last year that offers up to 87% discount on voice calls and up to 5 hours of free incoming calls. Airtel can continue 3G Intra-circle roaming, but cannot add new 3G customers in 7 circles, says SC

Supreme Court has ordered Bharti Airtel not to extend its 3G Intra-circle roaming services to new customers in the 7 circles, where it did not have licences for 3G spectrum, according to a report from The Economic Times. Airtel got a temporary relief earlier this week, when Supreme Court allowed them to continue their 3G intra-circle roaming till April 11th. Last month DoT had asked Bharti Airtel to stop 3G services in 7 circles and asked them to pay Rs. 350 crore (Rs. 50 crore per circle) for illegal roaming pact with Vodafone and Idea Delhi High Court temporarily stalled the execution of DoT’s order until the final hearing, after Airtel appealed against it.
