IDEA ID 920 launched recently by the IDEA Cellular Limited is a successor to the ID 918 launched back in year 2012. Similar to the ID918 which was the entry level 3G android smartphone, ID920 is also a entry level dual SIM 3G device but with much faster CPU, yet at very aggressive price point. Idea Cellular recently launched two more affordable but quality android smartphones to their portfolio to accelerate the 3G adoption by their customers in India. The higher end model is IDEA Aurus III. It is powered by MediaTek 6575 1GHz single core SOC and runs Jelly Bean 4.1.1 out of the box. According to a MBIT index study conducted by Nokia Siemens Networks, the 3G infrastructure provider for most of the networks in India, it has been revealed that the mobile data usage in the country has almost doubled in the period of December 2011 – 2012. The main reason for the increased usage in mobile data is attributed to 3 times increase in usage of 3G mobile data by consumers, mainly from, what operators call, the “A” circles. Apparently, a regular 3G user consumes an average of 434 MB per month while the average amount of data consumed by the 2G user is 115 MB per month. Ultimately, there has been a 92% total increase in the usage of mobile data, with a whopping 196% increase in 3G usage and a 66% increase in 2G usage.

Idea Cellular has launched two new Android smartphones, Idea ID-920 and Idea Aurus III. The Idea ID 920 is the successor of the ID 918 that was launched last year and the Aurus III is the successor of the Aurus II that was launched last month. The ID 920 has a 3.5 inch (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 2.3 ( Gingerbread). The Aurus III has a 4-inch (480 x 800 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Both these smartphones are powered by a 1 GHz processor and comes with Dual SIM (GSM + GSM) support. Vodafone India has launched a new international roaming pack for its post-paid customers in India visiting countries like UK, USA, UAE, Singapore and Thailand. It offers over 90% discount on data and approximately 64% on outgoing local and international calls. This pack is aimed at customers travelling overseas during this vacation season. The pack offers over 90% discount on data with rates as low as Rs.50/MB while roaming overseas. Outgoing local and international calls will be charged at Rs. 25/min and Rs.50/min respectively. After the successful Aircel Blog Up event in Delhi on March 15th, Aircel conducted the Aircel Blog Up Chennai edition on 10th May 2013. At the event, K. Sankara Narayanan, Regional Head, Regional Business Head, Aircel Chennai & Tamil Nadu said that they are gearing up to start pilot run for 4G LTE services in Chennai by the end of 2013 or early 2014. Nokia has just announced its new PureView device, the Lumia 928 for Verizon. The highlight of the phone is its pairing of a Xenon flash with the optical image stabilization assembly from the 920. The camera is a 8.7MP unit which will let you shoot images in both 4:3 and 16:9 mode without cropping. The camera module has a f/2.0 aperture.
Vodafone, in a statement today has announced that they are taking all required actions, including legal against the Department of Telecom (DoT), regarding extension and continuity of its licenses in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, as per the provisions of policy and license and repeated assurances by DoT and Ministry in the past. At the launch Nokia has announced that they have partnered with Facebook to offer free Facebook access on Airtel subscribers in Africa and India. Nokia Lumia 928, the company’s upcoming smartphone for Verizon has confirmed on the official Nokia US website. The phone has also been advertised on Vanity Fair magazine and recently spotted on a bill board in the US.
