Samsung has finally announced the rumored Galaxy Mega line of smartphones. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 is the high-end device in this series that has a 6.3-inch HD ( 1280 x 720 pixels) TFT capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash and a 1.9 MP front-facing camera. This phone lies between the 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2 and the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 / Galaxy Tab 2 310. Huawei unveiled the Ascend Mate with a 6.1-inch HD display at CES 2013 earlier this year. We are currently at a stage in which screen sizes of phones have become obnoxiously huge and whenever a manufacturer releases its flagship, it’s almost a certainty that it is going to be bigger than the previous flagship. This is the trend, and some people were sick of it, including some of us. So, when Samsung announced the Galaxy S3 mini, it was supposed to be the S3 for people with smaller hands, and for people who were just sick of huge screens. But, does it live up to the expectations of a smaller S3, or is it a completely different phone which is just smaller in today’s standards? Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3 specifications surface

Samsung Galaxy Mega line of Android smartphones, the Galaxy Mega 5.8 (GT-I9152) and the Galaxy Mega 6.3 were rumored earlier this month. Now, Sammobile is said to have confirmed specifications of these two devices. The Mega 5.8 is expected to have a  5.8-inch qHD TFT display, and the Mega 6.3 is expected to come with a 6.3-inch HD PLS display. Both these phones would run on Android 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) with Samsung’s own Nature UX on top. The Galaxy Mega 5.8 would have dual SIM support, and looks like a souped up version of the Galaxy Grand Duos, that we reviewed recently.

Samsung Galaxy Win that was recently unveiled in China has been officially announced for global markets. It has a 4.7-inch (800 x 480 Pixels) TFT display, run on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with Touchwiz UI and is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. It has a 5MP Auto Focus Camera with LED Flash, 720p HD video recording and a 0.3MP (VGA) front-facing camera. It comes in single SIM and dual SIM variants. The Samsung Galaxy Win Duos has dual SIM support with dual standby and dual SIM Always On feature, similar to the Galaxy Grand Duos that we reviewed recently. Samsung Galaxy Y Plus and Galaxy Young now available in India for Rs. 6290 and Rs. 8290


The Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus went on sale in India for Rs. 22,900 couple of weeks back, now Samsung’s new budget phones, the Galaxy Y Plus and the Galaxy Young are on sale in India from online retailers Snapdeal and Flipkart. The Samsung Galaxy Y Plus (GT-S5303) surfaced on Samsung India’s website last month. It has a 2.8-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 850 MHz  processor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).  The Samsung Galaxy Young (GT-S6312) was announced back in February, and we also brought you hands-on images of the device from the MWC 2013. The Indian smartphone market has recently been seeing an influx of a lot of devices which are big on the screen and specs, while at the same time small on the budget, catering to the exact demand of the market since the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Note. The phablet, as the term goes, means a device is bigger than a phone but smaller than the tablet, fitting right in the middle. This is purely a notion marketed by Samsung with the Galaxy Note, and it has caught up like wildfire among the various entrants in the Indian Smartphone market.

And two of the devices that are a by product of this phablet movement are the Micromax A116 Canvas HD and Samsung’s own Galaxy Grand Duos. Samsung has announced the Galaxy Trend 2 (SCH-I739) and the dual SIM variant, the Galaxy Trend 2 Duos (GT-S7572) in China along with the Galaxy Win. Samsung has also announced the Galaxy Grand Duos (GT-I9082)in China, that we reviewed recently. These look like souped up versions of the Galaxy S Duos. These have a 4.0-inch (480 x  800 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and run on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). These have a 3-megapixel rear camera.

Samsung Galaxy Win  (GT-I8552) press images and specifications have surfaced on a Vietnamese retail site mainguyen. The features of the are slightly better than the Galaxy S2 Plus that went on sale in India recently. It is expected to come with a 4.7-inch (800 x 480 Pixels) Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touch screen display and run on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) with Touchwiz UI and Nature UX. The site listing says that it would be powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 chip with Adreno 203 GPU, but the Vietnamese site tinhte.vn speculates that it might feature a Snapdragon 200 processor. Samsung has announced Galaxy Pocket Neo and Galaxy Star, two new Android smartphones in the Galaxy series. The Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo is the upgraded version of the last year’s Galaxy Pocket and the Galaxy Star is a budget phone with 2G EDGE support. Both these phones have a 3-inch (320 x 240 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and has a 2-megapixel rear camera. The Galaxy Pocket Neo is powered by a 850 MHz processor and the Galaxy Star has a 1 GHz processor. Both these phones would come in Dual SIM variants with Always On feature that would forward calls to the other SIM, depending on the market.

A new report suggests that Samsung might be working on a  new line of devices even larger than the Galaxy Note phablet. Dubbed the Galaxy Mega, the  ‘phones’ will sport displays ranging between 5.8 inches and 6.3 inches. The operating system of choice is expected to be Android.

It was announced in January last year, and launched in India last April at a price tag of Rs. 26,900 (MRP) running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It was selling at Rs. 17,500 earlier this month. Samsung Galaxy S4 mini confirmed, launching in June?


Samsung Galaxy S4 mini images leaked last week along with specifications. The device has been confirmed in an in-depth article on Samsung by Bloomberg Businessweek, which reveals that the device would launch soon after the launch of Galaxy S4 in April.
