Worldwide tablet shipments declined 8.6% in Q3 2018, Apple and Samsung continue to lead: IDC

According to IDC, the worldwide tablet market declined 8.6% during the Q3 2018. The global shipments fell to 36.4 million and the slate tablets accounted for the majority of the market with 31.6 million units, down 7.9% from the previous year. Detachable tablets also declined, down 13.1% from the previous year, and accounted for 4.8 million unit shipments. Global smartphone shipments down 6% in Q3 2018, Samsung leads with 72.2 million, Huawei posts 32.9% YoY growth

Samsung reports record profits in Q3 2018, will launch foldable and 5G smartphones in 2019

Samsung has reported its earnings for Q3 2018, in which the company has made all-time high operating profit of 17.57 trillion won ($15.45 billion), up 20.9% YoY, as expected, for the July-September 2018 period. This due to strong sales of memory products and OLED panels. It reported revenue of 65.46 trillion won, up 5.49 from 62.05 trillion won last year. Samsung introduces EVO Plus 512GB microSD Card

Samsung Galaxy Note9 supports up to 1TB storage with inbuilt 512GB storage and an additional 512GB support via microSD card. However, there’s no 512GB microSD card from Samsung, up until now anyway. Samsung Electronics has introduced two new 0.8-micrometer (μm) pixel image sensors; the 48-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 and the 32MP ISOCELL Bright GD1. Thanks to the reduced pixel size, the new sensors provide greater design flexibility, enabling manufacturers to build smaller modules or pack more pixels into existing designs. Samsung  launched the new Galaxy A7 (SM-A750F) with triple rear cameras in India last month. Here we have the camera samples from the phone. The phone has a 24-megapixel primary Sony IMX576 sensor with f/1.7 aperture, secondary 8-megapixel 120° Ultra Wide Lens for wide-angle photos and a 5-megapixel camera to capture depth information for portrait shots. Samsung Galaxy A6s with 6-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 660, 6GB RAM, dual rear cameras and Galaxy A9s with quad rear cameras announced

Samsung has introduced Galaxy A6s, a new mid-range smartphone as well as A9s with similar specifications as the recently-announced Galaxy A9 2018 (SM-A920F) in China. The A6s has a 6-inch FHD+ display, is powered by Snapdragon 660 with 6GB of RAM, runs Android 8.1 (Oreo), has a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, Dual Pixel technology along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera for AI portrait shots, and a 12-megapixel front camera.

Apple and Samsung fined $5.7 million each by Italian anti-trust watchdog over slowing down phones

Italy’s anti-trust watchdog has fined Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics 5 million euros ($5.7 million) each over reports suggesting both the companies slowed down their phones through software updates. the Cupertino company was hit with an additional 5 million euro fine for failing to give clear information about how to maintain or eventually replace handset batteries. Samsung has filed a patent with the USPTO and WIPO which is a method for acquiring biometric information and electronic device supporting the same’. The patent was published on October 18, 2018.
