Apple reports $11.25 billion profit in FY Q3 2020, confirms iPhone 12 will be delayed

Apple has reported quarterly revenue of $59.7 billion, up 11% over last year, a new June quarter record with a net profit of $11.25 billion, up 18% YoY and earnings per diluted share of $2.58 for the financial year Q3 2020 that ended June 27, 2020. During earnings call Tim Cook said that both products and services set June quarter records and grew double-digits and revenue grew in each of our geographic segments, reflecting the broad base of this success. Apple starts production of the iPhone 11 in India

In a move that boosts the “Make in India” initiative, Apple has started producing their flagship smartphone, the iPhone 11, locally in India at the Foxconn plant near Chennai. This was confirmed by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The iPhone 11 will be joining the iPhone Xr, as one of the two premium phones that Apple assembles in India.

Apple iPhone may feature periscope camera lens in 2022

Apple analyst, Ming Chi-Kuo, has released a report that reveals lens suppliers will be Apple utilising for their future smartphones. While the news of Apple switching to Semco and Sunny Optical is by itself not very interesting, what is interesting is the Semco is expected to supply Apple with periscope lenses in the 2nd half of 2020.

iOS 14 to add 16 new emoji including dodo, Piñata, pinched fingers and more

Back in January 2020, Unicode released their Emoji 13.0, a list of newly approved emoji for companies and platforms to introduce into their own apps and operating systems. Developers usually modify these emoji for their own platforms and now Apple has announced they’ll be adding 16 new emoji with iOS 14 later this year.

The iOS update brings Digital car keys that lets you unlock, lock, and start your compatible car (select BMW models) with your iPhone XR, XS or newer models. Both the updates bring new features for Apple News and Apple News+, including audio stories for the US users, and option to choose if updates should automatically be downloaded to your device when on Wi-Fi. Apple said to launch 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with Apple Silicon this year

During their WWDC 2020 event, Apple revealed that they will be launching their first laptops with Apple silicon by the end of this year. Now, a research note from popular Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, claims that Apple will likely launch both a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air with the new Apple silicon in late 2020.

10.8-inch Apple iPad said to launch later this year; 8.5-inch iPad Mini in 2021

A research note from Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple is working towards launching a 10.8-inch iPad by the end of 2020 and a 8.5-inch iPad Mini sometime in 2021. The iPad Mini will likely be updated with the newer A13 Bionic while the 10.8-inch iPad might be upgraded from its A10 Fushion Chip.

Apple iPhone 12 will not come with a charger or EarPods in the box: Rumour

Last week, a rumour surfaced claiming that Apple will not include a power adapter in the box with a purchase of the iPhone 12. A research note from popular Apple supply chain analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, appears to confirm the rumour, stating that Apple will not include both earpods or a charger, instead sell a 20W charger as an optional accessory.

Apple announces macOS 11 Big Sur with redesigned UI, new Control Center, improved Safari and more

Apple kick-started its 2020 WWDC event yesterday with its keynote, where they announced updates to every one of their device’s operating system. Among these previews, was the next update to its desktop OS, called macOS Big Sur. With it, Apple is introducing major redesigns to macOS’ look and feel, Safari is getting better privacy control along with other UI redesigns across its native apps.
