Nokia recently launched a brand new variant of its popular Lumia 920 smartphone on Verizon in the US. The handset went on sale on 16th May and while in New York we decided to step into a retail store to get a feel for the handset. Right when we were thinking what was new with the Nokia Lumia 925’s camera, we just happened to see some tweets from Nokia’s Imaging team. Having launched the device in London today, Nokia have confirmed that the Lumia 925 has a slightly updated camera, both in terms of hardware and software. In terms of hardware, the Lumia 925 is supposedly featuring a “world’s first” 6 element lens, unlike the usual 5 element lenses on various smartphones. On the software front, apart from all the Smart Camera features, the camera can go up to ISO 3200 now, whereas ISO 800 was the previous limit on the Lumia 920. For comparison sakes, the Nokia 808 PureView can go up to ISO 1600.
During the Lumia 925 launch event, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer announced an upcoming Lumia exclusive firmware update. Called the Windows Phone ‘Amber’ update, it will bring features that have been lying dormant in the phone. At an event in London, Nokia has just announced its next Lumia phone. Called the Nokia Lumia 925, it provides the features of the Lumia 920 in a slimmer shell. The phone has a metal band running around the body of the phone. The back plate ships in two colors, silver and grey. Over at the back you can spot an OIS capable camera at the back of the phone with an LED flash.
To build on the camera experience, Nokia has added in a new camera lens that tacks on a range of new features. It can take 10 images at one click for powerful new creative possibilities, such as Best Shot, Action Shot, and Motion Focus. This camera app will be rolled out to the entire Nokia portfolio via an update called the Nokia Lumia Amber update. The phone doesn’t support wireless charging internally but will be compatible with charging covers.

The sleek metallic body was teased by Nokia in their ads recently, with “More than your eyes can see” as the main tagline. You might be aware that Nokia is hosting an event in London this week on May 14 where the Finnish handset market is expected to announce a new Lumia phone. We have been hearing a lot of rumours about the phone code-named “Catwalk” in the last few weeks. Nokia might finally make this phone official and call it the Lumia 925. The company has been teasing the new phone in a commercial aired on British television earlier today. The phone in the video looks a lot like the one spotted in the Catwalk leaks. This device certainly must pack some impressive camera features as Nokia decided to use the words “more than your eyes can see” in the teaser. I am right now sitting at an Airport in Chennai waiting to board my flight to London to cover the Nokia event.

Nokia has just announced its new PureView device, the Lumia 928 for Verizon. The highlight of the phone is its pairing of a Xenon flash with the optical image stabilization assembly from the 920. The camera is a 8.7MP unit which will let you shoot images in both 4:3 and 16:9 mode without cropping. The camera module has a f/2.0 aperture.

If the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC One are anything to go by then optical image stabilization are all set to become standard features in smartphones over the next year or two. The deterrent so far has been the size of the MEMS gyroscopes which don’t allow ultra slim phones. InvenSense intends to change by introducing the world’s smallest dual axis gyroscope for optical image stabilization in smartphones

Nokia has sent out an invite to several media outlets for a launch event in London , UK happening on May 14.The invite says that the “Nokia Lumia Story Continues” on May 14th. The previous major Lumia launch happened at MWC in Barcelona where the company launched the Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 which are already available in India.
