HTC reports Q4 2013 financial results, revenue drops to NT$42.9 billion

HTC just published its financial reports for the third quarter of 2014 and has unfortunately reported yet another decline in sales. The company reported revenues of NT$42.9 billion. This is a substantial year on year drop from the NT$60 billion reported in Q4 2012. The 28% drop amounts to a drop of about USD 0.6 billion YoY in terms of revenue.

HTC-Desire-701-4

HTC’s operating margin was reported as -3.7 percent with a quarterly profit of NT $0.31 billion. HTC has forecast even lower revenue for Q1 2014. The company expects to make about NT$35 billion in the first quarter of 2014. This can be accounted to the lack of new launches especially in the upper end segment. We reported earlier that HTC plans to make a broader push towards strengthening their lower and mid range product portfolio. HTC M8 Mini to go light on specs, include 720p 4.5″ screen, 1.4 Ghz Snapdragon 400 processor

htc-one-mini-9

The Moto G and Xperia Z 1 compact are the two benchmark devices for ‘mini’ phones across price segments. While the Moto G aims to give you an extremely value for money experience, the Z1 compact goes the other way around by stuffing top of the line specifications in a tiny shell. The likes of HTC on the have have typically aimed at creating a device that might have a passing resemblance to their higher end models but pack much lower specifications. If the latest leak is to be believed, this will continue to be true.

Evleaks has provided us a glance at what are expected to be the specifications of the HTC M8 Mini. This device will accompany the higher end HTC M8. Specifications include a 1.4 Ghz Quad Core Snapdragon 400 processor which has recently been seen powering the Moto G. Paired with this will be 1GB of RAM which does seem a bit low. A 4.5 inch 720p display is what’ll be placed up front. Running Android 4.4 KitKat, expect to see Sense 6.0 on board. The rear camera is expected to be a 13MP unit paired with a 5MP front camera. The device should ideally be revealed at the upcoming Mobile World Congress alongside the flagship device ie the M8. While the specifications of the phone aren’t particularly exciting, a mix of good industrial design and pricing to match could make it an interesting device. We’ll be there to bring you the lowdown on the phone straight from the showfloor!

HTC M8’s on screen buttons revealed?

htc-m8-on-screen-buttons

The HTC One successor, codenamed M8, is all set to be released to the market in a couple of months, as the Taiwanese company plans to repeat its predecessor’s success. One interesting rumour that had persisted all this while was that HTC was finally going for on screen buttons instead of the weird capacitive ones on the HTC One and other devices. According to a leak from one Seina Weibo user, the HTC M8’s one screen buttons, the one you see in the image above, might just have been revealed. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was one of the first devices to incorporate on-screen buttons after the introduction of Android 4.0 for phones and tablets and then the trend caught up with other OEMs like Sony, but HTC curiously avoided it, which might change with the M8.

HTC’s unaudited 4Q 2013 results show small net profits amidst operating losses

HTC-Desire-601-1

HTC posted its first losses last quarter, even after the good performance of its flagship device – the One, and was expected to post huge losses this quarter too. Apparently, the Beats buy back seems to have provided some much needed cash for HTC, which has translated directly into small net profits for the company, after taxes. Today, HTC has posted its unaudited Q4 2013 results, with the numbers coming in at NT$42.89 billion(1.43 billion USD) of revenue with operating losses of NT$ 1.56 billion(52 million USD). However, as mentioned earlier, the company made back some of the money it lost on Beats earlier, with 31 million NT$(10.3 million USD) in net profits. These are currently “unaudited” and are usually published as guidance to shareholders before the real deal that will have the entire data.
