HTC would launch more number of cheaper mid-range smartphone this year, according to a recent report from Reuters. The company’s mid-range smartphone are very less in number, and are also costly, compared to mid-range smartphones from its other competitor. HTC believes that introducing more number of mid-range smartphones along with high-end ones would increase their profit.

Speaking to Reuters, HTC co-founder and chairperson Cher Wang, said

HTC will sell products in the $150 to $300 retail price range for both emerging and developed markets, along with high-end phones which can sell for over $600. HTC won’t get into the “very, very low-end market”

HTC Desire 310, a mid-range smartphone powered by a quad-core MediaTek appeared on the official website last month, but it was removed immediately. Looks like HTC would use also be using MediaTek chips on their mid-range smartphones to cut the cost. They don’t plan to enter very low-end market.

HTC was not in last year’s top 5 smartphone vendors list for shipping most number of smartphones, according to IDC. Unaudited Q4 2013 results showed US$ 1.43 billion of revenue with operating losses of US$ 52 million USD in the quarter. Hope the upcoming HTC smartphones starting at $150 ( Less than Rs. 10,000 approx.) for the emerging and developed markets would increase their profit this year.
