LG profits up 13.6%, mobile revenue down 21% YoY in Q2 2017

LG Electronics has reported revenues of 14.55 trillion won (US$ 12.89 billion) in the second quarter that ended June 30, 2017, which is up 3.9% compared to the same quarter last year. This is due to strong sales in home appliance unit, said LG. It has reported operating income of 664.1 billion won (US$ 588.2 million), up 13.6% for the same quarter in 2016. Facebook records $9.32 billion in revenue, 2.01 billion MAUs in Q2 2017

Facebook has revealed financial earnings for Q2 2017. The social network has recorded $9.32 billion in revenue, up 45% year-over-year (YoY). Net profit in the second quarter leapt 71 percent from a year ago to $3.9 billion.

Samsung has reported its earnings for Q2 2017, in which the company has made operating profit of 14.07 trillion won ($12.7 billion), up 72.85% YoY for the quarter that ended June 30, 2017. This is all-time high quarterly profit, due to strong System LSI sales through increased sales of AP and CIS products while the Display Panel Business expanded sales of flexible OLED panels for premium smartphones and high-value LCDs under stable prices. Meizu just announced its flagship PRO 7 and PRO 7 Plus smartphones, as it had promised. The PRO 7 has a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, while the PRO 7 Plus comes with a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen. Both the phones have a 1.9-inch secondary Super AMOLED 307 PPI
display on the back to show info such as weather, time and notifications. These phones also has 12-megapixel dual rear cameras with monochrome and color sensors offering portrait images with background blur along with a 16-megapixel front camera. Paytm partners with AGTech Media to launch mobile games in India

Paytm has teamed up with Hong Kong-based firm AGTech Media to launch a mobile gaming company in India. As per the joint venture, Paytm will hold 55% in the new joint venture while AGTech group will own 45%. Together they would invest $16 million (Rs 103 crore) in the venture. Paytm will invest around $8.8 million and AGTech will invest $7.2 million in the new venture.

USB 3.0 Promoter Group that comprises of Apple, HP, Intel, Microsoft, Renesas Electronics, ST Microelectronics and Texas Instruments has announced a new USB 3.2 specification that will offer multi-lane operation for new USB 3.2 hosts and devices, allowing for up to two lanes of 10 Gbps operation. This succeeds the USB 3.1 that was first introduced in 2013 offering 5 Gbps speed, later USB 3.1 gen 2 was introduced that offered 10 Gbps transfer speed.
