Ofcom has begun repurposing some TV spectrum in the UK for use with mobile services in a bid to free up unused spectrum and increase the allowance available to UK consumers. The regulator today said it would make the 700MHz spectrum, currently used for digital terrestrial television, available for mobile broadband use by 2022. Vodafone is reportedly in talks with Sky to base its upcoming TV service around the broadcaster’s internet streaming set-top box service, Now TV. The deal is likely to result in further enhanced collaboration between the two companies and add further fuel to the rumours that Sky will launch its own mobile network based on Vodafone’s network. TalkTalk has announced that it is dropping its partnership with Vodafone in favour of a similar deal with O2’s parent company Telefonica. In an announcement, TalkTalk said that the deal will allow it to access O2’s 2G, 3G and 4G network and the change represents a blow for Vodafone as the telecoms operator war rises another few degrees. Carphone Warehouse is set to join Samsung, Vodafone and online retailers in stocking the new Galaxy Note Edge in the very near future. Smartwatches may have initially been considered a passing fad when Sony originally announced the Smartwatch range and Samsung introduced the Galaxy Gear last year but over the past twelve months, we’ve seen many manufacturers announce smartwatches; from multiple new Samsung Gears to smartwatches from LG, Asus, Motorola, Huawei and Microsoft there’s a lot of competition.
