EE to launch 5G services in 16 UK cities in 2019

EE; UK’s mobile network that is part of BT Group has announced that it is switching on 5G sites in 16 UK cities in 2019. The first launch cities will be London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham, and Manchester. EE is building 5G in the busiest parts of the six launch cites including Hyde Park in London, Manchester Arena, Belfast City Airport, the Welsh Assembly, Edinburgh Waverly train station and Birmingham’s Bullring. TRAI releases 4G and 5G spectrum recommendations, price for next auction

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) just released recommendations on Auction of Spectrum in 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, including 5G spectrum – 3300-3400 MHz and 3400-3600 MHz bands after the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)   requested TRAI to provide applicable reserve price, quantum of spectrum to be auctioned and associated conditions for auction of spectrum. Ericsson and Qualcomm with 9 other telecom operators achieve multi-band 5G NR interoperability

Ericsson together with Qualcomm and in collaboration with 9 leading telecom operators AT&T, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, SK Telecom, Sprint, Telstra, T-Mobile US, Verizon, and Vodafone today conducted a multivendor 5G interoperability test compliant with the global 3GPP standard for 5G New Radio (NR) Non-standalone (NSA), which also got its specs approved today. This was held in both the Ericsson Lab in Kista, Sweden and the Qualcomm Research lab in New Jersey, USA. 5G specifications announced: 20Gbps download and 10Gbps upload

We got the official 5G logo earlier this month. Earlier this week the International Telcommunication Union (ITU) released a new report to confirm minimum requirements related to technical performance for IMT-2020 or 5G radio interface(s) which support the new capabilities of systems beyond IMT-2000 and IMT-Advanced. This outlines 13 specs that will need to be met for networks to call themselves 5G.

Intel today announced XMM 7560 modem, its fifth-generation LTE modem, and its first one offering gigabit speeds and also its first LTE modem to be manufactured on its 14nm process. It supports LTE Advanced Pro for downlink up to Category 16 with speeds exceeding 1 Gbps, and Category 13 for uplink with speeds of up to 225 Mbps. Qualcomm X50 5G modem with up to 5Gbps download speeds announced

Qualcomm unveiled X50 5G modem at 2016 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. The X50 5G modem supports download speeds of up to 5Gbps which is 5x faster than the fastest 4G modem. It uilizes wide bandwidths available in the 28 GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) band combined with advanced signal processing technologies.
