Premium section on App Store to sort applications

Apple is going to create a Premium section on the App Store.

The App store currently has over 15,000 applications and above 500,000,000 downloads, making looking for a particular software a tedious task.

What Apple now proposes to do is that of the several developers, it’s being rumored that the game development companies will be given preference for the ‘Premium’ section of the App Store.

This move also comes close on the heels of Apple’s announcement of the new OS 3.0. Perhaps applications of the new operating system will figure in the new section, making searches easy for the end user.

Nokia Ovi Store vs Apple App Store – an indepth comparison

Since Nokia announced the Ovi store at the Mobile World Congress this year, speculations have been rife about the success of this store in comparison to the already well-established and popular App Store from Apple. The N97 will be the first phone integrated into the service, with the remaining phones following when the system goes live in May.

We take a deeper look at the speculations and give you an insight into what’s in store for the end-user and beneficiary of what is clearly the big software battle between two giants.

First the similarities: Both Apple and Nokia offer a 70% revenue share to developers.

Differences: Apple began its App Store as a request from the public and developers to be allowed to develop products for the iPhone while Nokia is opening an application store to stream revenue into the company with a share of app sale prices, and to potentially push the sales of cellphones and smartphones.

Apple’s services are for a single handset, the iPhone; while Nokia’s is for dozens of different handsets with two different Symbian OS’s aboard. Continue reading “Nokia Ovi Store vs Apple App Store – an indepth comparison”

Use your Nokia phone as a flashlight with PhoneTorch for SymbianOS 9.4 5th Edition

Ever wondered to what level convergance can actually reach. First our phones doubled as a MP3 player, then they bundled as a mass storage device., then as a Camera . Few of our phones could also double as a Flash torch light. But that feature was long reducing in usage as they did not offer that functionality and the feature could tend to be over used which actually caused the camera flash light to diminish in quality and life time. Ofcourse like all technologies the right amount of usage always matters.

Well with that caution here is re introducing the flash light functionality into your S60 5th Edition Nokia Phones.[5800, n97]

Anyway, Harald Meyer has come to the rescue withPhoneTorch for S60 5th Edition, in full Symbian Signed form. Continue reading “Use your Nokia phone as a flashlight with PhoneTorch for SymbianOS 9.4 5th Edition”

Pencil key maps itself to Nokia 5800

I often see my cousin and I finding it difficult to actually select multiple sms’s for deletion and also for choosing photos to appear as wall papers or even multiple delete without having to each time choose the mark all, mark options in the option menu every time we wanted to in the Nokia 5800.

Thanks to Juriy Bakunin aka JBAK, who was kind enough to notify the short comings, he has released a wonderful application called the JBakPensil.  It is the key that allows you to do multiple selection. Older S60 Nokias have this, the new one don’t have it anymore. It allows you to select any 1 key to emulate the pencil key to have the multiple selection option so as to be able to do several editing, selecting and deleting actions at once.
