Qualcomm at its second annual summit has showcased its Aqstic Hi-Fi DAC; AQT1000 as headphone jack is slowly becoming obsolete. The Qualcomm-made audio DAC supports playback of formats at up to 384KHz and 32 bits, including the obscure DSD format. Earlier this year it introduced Aqstic USB-C Headset Code WHS9420, single chip USB audio SoC platforms designed specifically for USB-C connected audio devices. OPPO launched the F5, a selfie-focused smartphone with 6-inch full HD+ 18:9 full-screen display last month, and as promised, it has launched the F5 Youth smartphone, a cheaper version of the phone. It has a similar display and comes with A.I. beauty recognition technology that scan 200 facial recognition spots to beautify a selfie shot perfectly and also offers bokeh effect along with Face unlock, but this has a 16-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera. Facebook seems to be following the same route it did with messenger as the company-owned Instagram is testing Direct; a standalone private messaging app that replaces current inbox from the core app. The Direct app interface is very similar to Snapchat as this too opens to camera. Qualcomm and MediaTek have announced support for the Android Oreo (Go edition) which officially introduced at an event in India earlier this week for low-cost Android devices that have 512MB to 1GB of RAM. Google at the Google For India 2017 event earlier this week said that Smartphones running Android Oreo (Go edition) will be available early 2018. Huawei just announced Nova 2s, the company’s latest smartphone in the Nova series in China. It has a 6-inch Full HD+ 18:9 display, is powered by an Octa-Core HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC with IntelliSense i6 sensor hub and runs on Android 8.0 (Oreo) with EMUI 8.0. It has a 16-megapixel RGB camera sensor along with a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor with f/1.8 aperture for capturing depth information and also has portrait mode. Apple has successfully stopped Xiaomi from trademarking Mi Pad tablet in Europe as an EU trademark as the name was too similar to Apple’s iPad. The European Union’s second-highest court, the General Court has ruled against Xiaomi and said that it should not register as a trademark. Xiaomi just announced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphone at an event in China as it had promised. The Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 full-screen display, is powered by Snapdragon 450 and packs a 3300mAh battery, while the Redmi 5 Plus comes with a 5.99-inch FHD+ 18:9 full-screen display, is powered by Snapdragon 625 and packs a 4000mAh battery. Both these run Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9.
