The IFA 2019 GPC or Global Press Conference took place in Andalusia in Spain this year. The conference attracted over 300 journalists from all over the world from 55 countries. The location was interesting because it is located at the intersection of Spain and Portugal. Here is a summary of the products and trends we saw at the event.
Xiaomi launched its first dual-camera phone Redmi Note 5 Pro in India last year running MIUI 9.2 on top of Android 7.1 (Nougat) and later updated it to MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 (Oreo) back in June 2018. MIUI 9.5 also brought some new features such as full-screen gesture support, Dual 4G VoLTE and more to Redmi Note 5 Pro. Later in September 2018, the company rolled out MIUI 10 update for the smartphone, followed by Android 9.0 (Pie) based MIUI 10 Global Beta update in March 2019. Xiaomi launched the Redmi 6 Pro in India back in September 2018 running MIUI 9 on top of Android 8.1 (Oreo) and later in December, it was updated to MIUI 10 which was also based on Android 8.1. Back in February, the company started recruiting Beta testers for testing Android Pie based MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM for various devices including Redmi 6 Pro. The company rolled out Android Pie based MIUI Global Beta ROM for the device in March. After leaks Motorola has officially announced the Moto Z4, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone in the Z series in the US. It has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ OLED screen with 85% screen-to-body ratio, is powered by Snapdragon 675 with 4GB of RAM, runs Android Pie, has a 48-megapixel rear camera with Quad Pixel technology to capture 12 MP images, OIS, artificial intelligence (AI) features and a 25-megapixel front camera with 1.8µm Quad Pixel mode for 6.25MP images, portrait mode and AI-based beautification.
Google was testing speed limit warnings, speed cameras, and fixed and mobile radar locations in Google Maps for some time in the US and other countries. After limited testing, the US tech giant is finally rolling out these features in over 40 countries. Google Maps users in over 40 countries including India will start to see speed limits, speed cameras, and mobile speed camera soon.

Xiaomi’s Redmi brand launched the Redmi Note 7S smartphone in India last week starting at Rs. 10999, and the phone went on sale across Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home stores starting from May 23rd. American audio manufacturer Bose launched the QuietComfort 35 II (QC 35 II) headphones with Google Assistant in September 2017. It was known for its excellent active noise cancellation feature. After a year, now, the company has announced its new Bose 700 noise-canceling headphones with a refreshed design, adjusting mechanism on the outer side, Type-C charging port and more.

OPPO has announced Reno Z, the company’s new addition to the Reno series. It has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED water-drop notch display, unlike the no-notch screen in the other Reno models. It is also the first smartphone to be powered by MediaTek’s latest Helio P90 12nm SoC. The phone has up to 8GB of RAM, retains the 48-megapixel primary rear camera with Sony IMX586 sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary camera, but this comes with a 32-megapixel front camera.
Meizu just announced 16Xs, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone in China as it had promised. It has a 6.2-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with ultra narrow bezel and 90.29% screen-to-body ratio, is powered by Snapdragon 675 with up to 6GB of RAM, runs Flyme OS 7 based Android Pie with One Mind 3.0 AI, has a 48-megapixel rear camera with Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 sensor, night mode along with an 8-megapixel 118.8° ultra-wide and a 5-megapixel camera. Samsung Electronics today announced that its Exynos Auto 8890 processor will be powering German automobile manufacturer Audi’s third generation high-spec modular infotainment platform (MIB). The advanced in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system will be equipped as standard in the new A4 and upcoming models.
JioMusic app was rebranded to JioSaavn with a new look and features last year. Recently, a new feature was rolled out where users could share JioSaavn songs to Facebook and Instagram Stories. In similar lines, the feature is now being extended to Snapchat and JioSaavn will now let you share songs to Snapchat and improve music discovery.
